Me and the Mrs are off to Berlin for a couple of nights in December. We're staying in the Alexanderplatz area, any recommendations for stuff to do, places to go, restaurants, decent bars etc?

Well you've got a pretty good Christmas market next door.

Spoilt for choice. Everywhere in Mitte is heaving with bars and restaurants of all cuisines.

Alexanderplatz was initially the HQ of the SS until it moved. But you probably won't be interested in that.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Depends what you're into, history, art, Nightlife? Alexanderplatz isn't actually much to look at. You've got everything relatively near, the museum of the DDR, river tour on the Spree , East side gallery (wall graffiti), Pottsdammer platz, Reichstag, Brandenburger Tor, Checkpoint Charlie. Most of the main attractions are in Mitte and Kreuzberg. Berlin is relatively cheap and easy to get around. It's big, but as I said, the main attractions are relatively close together and not far from where you're staying. You'll have plenty to fill your time.

Restaurants will almost all have an English menu and staff who can speak English, if you ask, even off the beaten track.

Been twice and stayed at Alexander platz in August. Book a bike tour from under the Tower and see the sights. Well worth it

loads to do but geared to the recent history.

checkpoint Charlie, the balloon trip next door is good, get the red bus tour, Trabant hire, loads of bars but if you like German bierkellers try Löwenbräu am Gendarmenmarkt. and of course banging techno clubs.
