Had an interview Friday and the recruiter asked at the end we hope to let people know by Wednesday next week, and would it be ok to leave a message ? To which I said that would be fine, That makes me think I am not successfully as usually they phone and speak to you with feedback. And I feel leaving a message feels like a way of getting out of speaking with you to give you bad news...

To answer your post about little clues. Many years ago I went for a job at Bromley Library, the candidate before me came out of the room and was surrounded by the staff who obviously knew them. They might as well have given her hi fives. To make matters worst at the end of my interview I was told I had given the best interview and had a great CV but they had decided to give it to another candidate (no surprise).

That was an example of the council paying lip services to advertising jobs to external candidates when they already had an internal candidate lined up.

Anyway try not to read too much into it fingers crossed you get the job.

A mate of mine went for an interview on the 7th floor. After the interview, he took the lift down and on the way out he was called over to reception and handed his rejection letter! Now, he knows it went bad, but...

If you like the job, get in touch. It makes you look keen. If they are trying to make up their minds it could sway them in your favour, or they might get in touch again in future.

If it's a already a no, then you can't make things worse.

20 years applied for a job with the Environment Agency (EA)at an office in Kent.
I surpassed myself. My interview went well. I did an excellent presentation to staff and other candidates on the progression of the EA, and took questions at the end.
Surprisingly, I thought I'd pl55ed it. Never have I felt so confident, especially after seeing the other candidates presentations,
No,......internal promotion candidate got the job.
What a waste of my fcking time.

I disengage, I turn the page.

My missus is a teacher with 25 years experience, and in a Senior Management role in a London school.
5 years ago, she applied for a (lesser) teaching job 10 minutes away from where we live.
She went to the school for a pre-interview visit, and on the day of the interview, she was kept in a 'waiting room' with 2 other candidates.
The first candidate was called into interview,..."Miss Smith, do you want to come through ?"
My wife chatted to the other candidate who explained the Head Teacher had asked her to apply for the job.
20 minutes later the first candidate returned to the waiting room.
My wife was called next,.."Miss White, do you want to come through ?" When my wife returned to the waiting room, the last candidate was called in,...."Barbara, do come in. how good to see you "

so who got the job then? Bloke said to me 'be lucky' at the end of one interview, which clearly implied I was not lucky on that occasion

A few years ago I had an interview at an American bank based in Bromley.

The agency that introduced me warned me that the woman interviewing me had been flown over from California, was notoriously tough and I could expect the interview to last 45 max. I prepared myself accordingly.

When I met with her we seemed to get on really well and seemed to share the same ideas and philosophies. The interview lasted 90 minutes. Both myself and the agency were encouraged by that and I was quietly confident about my chances.

3 weeks went by before the agency finally got feedback which was '' I really liked him but he's not senior enough for role. However I would like to hire him for another position we have ''

I wasn't really interested in the other job, but went for the interview anyway.

I didn't get it. Reason '' he's too senior '' !

the point being that these things are not rational, if she liked you it would be harder for her to boss you around, the second interview is pure power tripping for me, a tease from a power junky. Many good candidates are turned down if they're not in debt with a family to feed, you've got to be nice and insecure and hang on grimly to your cr*p job no matter what, tow the line, do their dirty work, peddle their bullsh*t, shop your colleagues, I will be making myself self-employed in a few months' time, not before time, employment (or being employed by someone) especially in organisations is glorified slavery for the undead .

In my younger days I went for an interview as a researcher at a Scientific research company. Interviewer was a good looking woman who I got on well with. At the end, shaking hands, I winked at her. Didn't get the job.
