I urge you to watch this video by 'Rationality Rules' on decisions by European courts over references to the founder of Islam.

[Link]

All those who defend the EU and its required institutions, such as the courts therein should reflect upon the damage they have already done to freedom of speech.

They are essentially enforcing blasphemy laws upon those in Europe.

Disgusting decision which I why I want to leave the ECHR as soon as possible and replace it with a British bill of rights. Freedom of Speech unless it advocates violence or criminality should be the bedrock of that bill of rights.

I should point out that the ECHR is nothing to do with the EU but that doesn't take away from the valid point you are making.

Isn't it a requirement of being in the EU that you are subject to its laws?

It's the interpretation of these laws that is the issue.
Do we trust authority not to use them as part of their agenda?

Do we heck.

What is most ironic is that we are promoting tolerance of one of the most intolerant religions on the planet.
The fact that intelligent minds tolerate religious claptrap at all in the twenty first century is loony enough.
Religion breeds intolerance and division. Therefore, I see no contradiction in not tolerating religion.

Got those turnips up yet S.

Silly cow freedom of speech does not mean calling Mohammed a paedophile, or Jesus.

No surprise she hails from Hitler's patch there are still plenty of them around if you look hard enough.

Took this to every court imaginable too, they all rejected it.

I will be continuing to have freedom of speech but conscious of my responsiblity.

Tbh if you or I call Mohammed or Jesus a paedophile, then we deserve all we would get.

Apparently not! I just looked it up, a lot of blurb I just skimmed. You are correct that all EU member states are members of the ECHR but it doesn't appear to be a legal requirement, the EU itself is not a party. They are very closely linked and the ECJ takes note of ECHR rulings.

Anyway if you are correct that's just another reason to leave the EU.

Sorry Steely but you speak in defence of blasphemy laws not freedom of speech.

Don't tell me that these are acceptable laws to live under thank you very much.

Your whole post is a paradoxical statement.

You mean a lie that we are leaving?
