In a mad moment of clarity I think this is the kind of radical breath of fresh air, an existential leap that could make Brexit work -otherwise we are choosing the world of Trump and Putin over the world of Macron and Merkel. Or maybe tone down the monarchies like the Scandinavians and Dutch have done - it hasn't done them any harm, they are fare more advanced societies than ours. Just a thought.

We only have one monarchy.

By tone down, I assume you mean take some money away from them. Constitutionally they can’t be toned down much further.

I would prefer a republic but the majority of the country still love the Royal family. Personally I am very fond of our queen who has done a brilliant job, the rest of her family not so much.

The problem we republicans have is what do you replace the monarchy with, there is no consensus as the Australians discovered. Do you want a President like the USA / France or a figure head like Ireland. If you go for a figure head you may end up with the human equivalent of boaty mcboat face e.g. President Lilly Allen.

For now I say leave things as they are. There are constitutional changes that should be made after our queen departs this mortal coil. Before Charles III is enthroned we should disestablish the Church of England the only other countries that have a state religion you would probably not want to live in. Currently the monarch cannot be catholic that needs to be changed. Personally I don't care what they are it is a matter of conscience but the head of the Church of England should not be the monarch but the Archbishop of Canterbury and that role should be selected by the church and not the Prime Minister. There are probably other technical changes as well including for instance a term limit. In Scandinavia the monarchs abdicate when they feel no longer up to the job and this is no big deal. Our queen in her coronation oath took this as a job for life her successors should not be lumbered with that.

The Royals have no more right to be royal that I do.
It's all hogwash. We all know that. In fact, their behaviour over the decades has sometimes been appalling and not becoming of any sort of figurehead or role model.

However. In practical terms, if we deprived the Royals of their titles and sold off their land etc, I'm sure it would be acquired by some Arab or American in no time.

No thanks.

Despite being silly, I vote that we keep Her Maj and all that sail with her.

PS. My favorite Royal was Prince Albert. We have a football team because of him(sort Of).

I think William and Harry are brilliant, they don't come across as stuck up or pretentious, do fantastic work for charity, the way they came out and raised awareness for mental health and talked openly about their own personal troubles was admirable, there's the invictus games.

I think it's more important that we have a proper, written Constitution. Now, more than ever, the individual citizen needs protection from the ever-increasing encroachment of the State. I'm happy to see that under a much-reduced constitutional monarchy which is what it'll be after HM croaks anyway.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I'd concur with that.
