I said at the time we got TFM and RLC in that getting high quality loan players is a double edged sword. We are missing Cabaye this year but I think we are missing RLC more. Go back and watch the 5-0 against Leicester and you will see just how important and quality the guy was for us. Getting loan players in that you cannot buy is the ultimate short term move in football. Now we have not only a Cabaye shaped hole, which is impacting Luka big time, but we have a massive gap where RLC was. Getting these loan players in looks great at face value but when you start to rely on them, and they become integral to your system, you have to expect a hangover when they disappear. Loaning players from big clubs is great for the player and the big club, but If we don’t have an option to buy it’s a short term move for us that can then bite us hard. Watch that Leicester game again.

RLC was a great addition to the team last season but not sure that he was pivotal to us winning a huge amount of games last season. Taking players from the bigger clubs seems the only benefit in the loan system as they seem to be the players that perform, many others do not. Even then it isn't a sure hit. TFM didn't do a lot last season in my opinion. As far as I am aware we have 1 loan place free, maybe RLC will come in Jan ?

i dont agree with your stance. loans usually suit all parties, but nowadays were just doing it on a larger scale, we used to get james vaughan & forsell. now we get players like RLC. max meyer will be filling the cabaye role when he gets his slot full time. i agree we miss RLC, but i would rather have had him for a season & miss him when he leaves than never having seen him play in red & blue. the mistake fans made was pinning their hopes on RLC coming back.

Agreed with the OP. They help short term but do more damage long term cause they leave just when the other players get used to how they move and where they pass. If you can't keep the player for at least 2 years and don;t have an option to buy, no point in loaning him.

Never heard people moan when we loaned Paul Stewart, who helped us win promotion but was never going to sign for us.

RLC is so over rated he spent almost half the time injured and then when he did play it's not a if he was scoring bunch of goals or offering up loads of assists. He was what we needed at the time due to injury problems but if we had him now I can't see how he would offer anything we need also Roy would just end up playing him on the wing the big problem with loan system now is the big clubs are holding other ransom for them they dictate high fees yet have no interest in even using the players RLC is example not even featuring for Chelsea yet not gone out on loan again because they are being greedy with fees otherwise I think Palace would of got him again

RLC overrated and too injury prone , will be injured more than playing if we get him again

Don’t agree that he’s overrated.... think he fits the system well and he doesn’t look like he’ll be playing much at Chelsea he might as well come back.. agree that will suit and help Wilf.....

I definitely get that sentiment but how often do managers, players and ex-players talk about familiarity with teammates being a huge factor. When you get someone like RLC in you basically have a 10% chance of getting them permanently, if that. Hoping for such a player to be really successful at the club seems totally counter intuitive to me. Its the ultimate in short term, lack of "joined up" thinking. If the guy does well, especially in the opponents half, then he disappears there is going to be a hangover period. Just watch that Leicester game, I know its only 1 game, and their heads dropped and they went down to 10, but the way we passed and moved in that game was a million miles from what we saw yesterday. We havent replaced Cabaye which is criminal (we have some career criminals working in our player recruitment dept) but the lack of power, dynamism, great passing and forward thinking from RLC is really hurting us. We had so long to replace both players and we failed, based on how things look currently. I would rather just have 1 hole in midfield, rather than a 2nd one which is self inflicted. Time to have a long term strategy at our club, and that should not include loaning world class players we cannot buy IMHO.
