Firstly my kids have left school so no axe to grind there.
A school in carshalton is not allowing kids to ride to school without a school issued number plate.
Alongside this there is free training on cycling safely and cycle maintenance.
A lot of people are professing it will put kids off using bikes.
It is primarily about being able to report bad cycling for the public which is prevelant by youngsters TBH.
A poor lad died when i was at school.
He was 11 and it was 41 years ago.
I never really knew him but i do sometimes think about seeing his classmates in bits about his death.
He died doing his morning paper round.
Someone on here will also remember im sure.
To the point would this scheme be able to possibly prevent a sad event like that happening?
What are peoples thoughts on if it is a nanny state knee jerk or a good idea.

My best mate from primary died at 11, 41 years ago, on his paper round, when he was a student at ashburton. I still carry his picture and wear his st Christopher. Anything that helps to reduce tragedies like that is ok with me - not sure this approach will help much though

Initials are right - that is the lad. Lovely guy, I think they planted a tree for him at ashburton.

The kids lined up as the hearse went past the school, which was nice. HE lasted a week or so before they switched off life support, i kept in touch with his mum for a while, and took his little brother to the pictures, but lost touch now. Such a waste, I often wonder where he would be now, whether we would still be mates etc every time i open my wallet and he looks up at me (luckily i am so tight i don't do it often)

I believe the issue is that kids from the school are doing tricks and mucking about which good get them killed. The hope is that if they can be identified they they wont do it in the first place.

Blimey is was in 1T at Ashburton, but 3 years later! I also know of the incident as I wasnt allowed to do a paper round for ages as a result due to it.
