Not so much out of fashion as out of existence, just been watching a re-run of the New Avengers, Gareth Hunt in a matching beige safari suit, the nemesis 'Scorpion' in beige jacket and matching flairs, beige sofas everywhere, beige trouser suits for the ladies (though Purdey was wearing a red, yellow and green cardigan and shawl with yellow-framed sunglasses - oh the 70s). Nowadays it's buff, vanilla or cream, normally off set by navy blue, gone are beige tops, bottom and shoes, biscuit beige, you never even hear the word, I have some beige document wallets at work, but I bet the lady in admin will describe them as 'sandy', which is a shame, anyone else feeling a sentimental loss for our current absence of beige? If so this the place to share your loss.

The other day he-who-must-be-fed came through to the kitchen wearing sort of gingery-beige cords and a fawn shirt. "Do I look ok?" he asked. "Only if you want to go out looking like a digestive biscuit" I replied.

He disappeared and returned wearing dark grey cords and a teal shirt.

Beige is alive and well and being fought against by women up and down the country!

I tend not to follow what the fashionistas dictate. Beige is alive and well chez Funt.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Oh so true

I have been the subject of dreadful beige shaming. I don’t dare wear even my favourite socks any more.

I was watching the cricket last week and when the commentators were standing on the pitch chatting I noticed that they were all wearing blue suits or trousers with brown shoes.

In my day of wearing suits that was always considered a no no as brown shoes only ever went with a brown suit but it seems that fashions change.

I've still got a pair of brown brogues somewhere so I'll dig them out and wear them with blue jeans so that I'm fashionable again

Look, I managed to get him out of polyester trousers, but there is only SO much a woman can do.....

...and in his case cords never went out of fashion either.

Brown shoes used also to be strictly for the countryside and tweed suits - there used to be the old saying: never wear brown in town. Only cads and ne'ere-do-wells wore brown shoes in a city.
