The ones whose name you don't know but then after seeing them over and over again or in retrospect you realise how good they are - what they used to call character actors. Sometimes they become famous names, others just get a following from film buffs. Glyn Edwards [Link] Harry Andrews [Link] Hal Holbrook [Link] Some examples there, here's my vote for number one unsung hero actor - who was the best actor in The Shawshank Redemption? For me without question the govenor, what a magnificent portrayal of a total c*nt, you're not watching an actor but a proper c*nt. We'll dig out his name in due course, in the meantime it would be nice to find out who your candidates are.

[Link] I was asking my Mum about Skip yesterday. She has an incredible memory for an 80 year old. I remember him when I was a kid growing up in Sydenham and he was the first real life person I'd seen on the telly although he generally only played small parts. A real nice bloke who always had a smile on his face. Passed away in 1984. Ollie's Dad,Ash.

Powers Booth ( Southern Comfort) fantastic movie I can’t describe Robert Shaw as ‘unsung’. He was one of the most prolific and acclaimed actors of his day. He had ‘Oscar’, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations, and played some of the most recognisable roles in movie history (in ‘Jaws’, ‘The Sting’, even ‘From Russia With Love’, for example. Incidentally; ‘The Taking of Pelham 123’ - great movie! Up there with ‘The French Connection’ but not quite as far up there as ‘The Godfather’ or ‘The Godfather Part ll’, obviously! Back to Robert Shaw; he had 10 children and only lived to age 51, dying of a heart attack! Edited by YT (07 Sep 2018 6.43am)
