Not talking about egocentrics, or people up their own @55holes. I'll start.

I used to stay in the Croydon Aerodrome hotel when back in the UK visiting family, one evening in the bar around 7 pm an old guy came in with his daughter, she looked about 65 so god knows how old he was, he was unsteady on his feet so I offered him a stool next to me & we started chatting, my god what an interesting guy, we chatted for a while & just before parting he told me a story about a time that he was playing golf with Douglas Bader, one of the party was complaining about the morning dew making his feet wet, and apparently Douglas Bader quipped, "that must be absolutely awful for you" obviously this took place after he had lost his legs, I can honestly say it isn't often that you meet someone & feel the richer for having had a conversation with them, but for sure with this guy I absolutely did.

Florida about 30 years ago. This little old lady teamed up with me and my dad around the golf course. She only used 1 club for everything and was scoring better than me (much to my annoyance). At the end of the round she asked us to see her car, It was a new American model but she had painted eyelashes around the headlights and a lipstick mouth around the bonnet and grill. She didn't care that people thought she had ruined the paintwork. "It's the last car I will own and the kids in town love it and everybody talks to me." Good on her, eccentric but also smart, I doubt she was ever lonely after that.

Nuclear physicists abound in this part of the world, and I was in conversation with one when the subject turned to smoke alarms. 'We don't need a smoke alarm, we don't smoke'. Eccentric? Probably not. Just sh!t for brains. Edited by Harpo (17 Aug 2018 11.07pm) Edited by Harpo (17 Aug 2018 11.07pm)

I have a friend in Beckenham in his 80's. Since he stopped work 3 years ago, he has returned to his hobbies of : * Restoring his 1933 Rolls Royce (bits of which are in the garage, living room and kitchen)
