How strange is the name of the team you support?
In Spain, when I need to explain to a local, who I support( much less now we've been in the top flight)- is the translation.
"Crystal Palace" translated to Spanish is: " El Palacio de cristal" which in turn translates back into English, as "The palace of crystal"
Which sounds weird if you're Spanish.
"Go ahead eagles" from Holland to me, for obvious reasons sounds funny but at the same time, in a weird way complementary.
So, the question is - what weird club names are there out there?

think it was john peel that compared supporting Palace to being into a venezulian pipe band and truly believing they were great
(or something along those line)
northeners find our name between ridiculous and very @fucl off that's what we're calling it'

Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

Just goes to show his knowledge on pipe bands who originate from Peru.

As for those northern chappies.
" Newcastle United" would translate into " el Castillo undido de nuevo"
" The united new castle "

I always liked irthlingborough diamonds because of their name disappointed when they became Rushden and Diamonds and when I realised it wasn't Earthling borough anyway

Welsh: Mold
Irish: Ards
Scottish: Keith

I always say a pathetic joke to myself during the football results every time Keith lose: "poor old Keith, he does ever so well you know ...".

Due to our Chinese players, I was surprised that colleagues in China, when I visited in 99, knew who Palace were. Their pronunciation was crap though, sounded like they were saying Crisis Bliss.

Crisis Bliss sounds perfect. All my years as an Eagle have seen Crisis. And the Bliss is that we are always above Brighton, charlton, millwall.

i like clubs with electric engineering names : dynamo kiev, AC milan, locomotiv moscow.

and bad spelling.
Hamilton Academical.

when maccabi haifa plays against West Ham , its the Hammers versus the Hammers.

Not answering your question but I have been photographed next to two Palacio de Cristal signs in Spain and one in Portugal. Always on the look out for them now!

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.
