Still 1 year contract to go, so I can't see anyone taking him just now, after he has recuperated from injury.
He was wonderful in the Premier League as winger, especially on the right. His movement to the centre was a disaster, especially as a defensive player. But he did have the skills and technique to play inverted winger. Could he be an adequate substitute for Townsend? Townsend is a similar left footed inverted winger, but younger and a starter.

Chungy was a substitute as right wing last season, but mostly unused. Instead of buying a new substitute for 2-3 million, could Puncheon fill that?

moving Puncheon infield was a disaster. So, so one footed. But he used to do a decent job on the wing.

The only PL games he started last season were 6 of the first 7 and we know what happened then! I hope we never see him again.

I think he's got something to prove, so maybe we will see a new improved player this season.

he got caught up in the club incident, he wasn't playing well before that happened, and age wise he shouldn't really be past it yet, PERHAPS something happened in his personal life that made him lose it a bit, someone close to him passed or the cup final loss was too much for him to take, I dunno, but its possible we may see a different puncheon this year, something closer to the one 4 years back, who knows.

whether he gets his chance is the bigger question.

It could just be that not one manager even dropped him from the team apart from the cup final and then Roy drops him from not only the captaincy and team altogether but also the bench, every week. No doubt that got to him after being first on the teamsheet for quite a few seasons.

We know he is capable of playing well

If - and it's a big one - he has recovered from his injury

and if - a smaller one - he is used in the right position by a manager who knows how to get the most out of him

and if - I have no idea how big this one is - he has his head right, he could be as good as he once was and maybe even better

Too early to write him off, in Roy we trust.

no is the immediate response, he's lost some pace so I don't think he's a credible option on the wing anymore, he was never a central midfielder, second team player now, if he did find hid form again he could be an option as a number 10 but i'd say he's basically past his sell by date, players like him used to end up at Orient back in the day.

NO!

He did not impress at all as captain or as a player.
We need to do better.
