This year's tournament will undoubtedly go down as one dominated totally by CPFC - Southgate, RLC, Alan Smith on GMTV, Mark Bright on Newsnight, Luka, Moses, Fonte, Jedinak, you can't look at a game without being overwhelmed by our magnificent presence, I'm sure the final will be dominated by a Palace theme somehow, maybe the winning scorer will be related to Sasa Curcic or Ron Noades will have racially abused one of the French player's parents twenty odd years ago, you just can't get away from us even if you wanted to, even the Russian Flag is white with red and blue, it's ridiculous quite frankly - has a club side ever had such an influence on a tournament (apart from West Ham in '66 possibly at stretch) - I don't think so, correct me please if I'm wrong.

Russia used to be part of the Soviet Union.

Red Soviet Union football shirts and tracksuits used to have ‘CCCP’ across the chest.

Said quickly, ‘CPFC’ sounds a little bit like ‘CCCP’.

The OP may therefore have a point.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I think that Spurs might claim that it was them that got us to the semis although their five players in the England side against Croatia didn't do as well as their one ex player in Croatian colours

Except that the letters in CCCP were of course Cyrillic and are therefore really SSSR. Soyuz sovyetskikh sotsialisticheskikh ryespublik.
