Palace's 4 high profile signings of recent times are Benteke, Sakho, Cabaye and Townsend. Why did they chose to come to Palace?

In Benteke and Sakho's case - nobody else would pay the fee Liverpool wanted for them.

Cabaye wanted 1st team football to get into the France squad for the European Championships in his home country and we were the highest profile team.

Townsend wanted Premier League football.

So why would Wilshere choose us over, say, West Ham? Can we pay him more than West Ham?

Given that Wilshere's a free transfer he'd command over £1m for a signing on fee plus over £100k a week in wages as he's an England international.

I love Palace as much as the next Palace fan but to give up Cabaye, who people say can only play 70 minutes a game, to sign Wilshere, who can just about manage 70 minutes every other game, isn't in keeping with our financial model.

Cabaye's gone for a last very large pay day. He hasn't gone to the UAE for competitive football.

Sorry unless I’m mistaken everything about his post is wrong.

Cabaye was offered a new contract on reduced wages. As A. The club need to drive the wage bill down so we can spend elsewhere and also B. Because Cabaye struggles for 90mins week in week out and as such needs wages to reflect the less role he’d have going forwards.

Cabaye rejected the offer and took big money in the Far East.

Sad to see him go.

Wiltshire it’s widely being reported is looking at going Italy, Cabayes new contract offer was on the table prior to Wiltshire deciding he was leaving. The two therefore are not related.

If we already had Wiltshire and we replaced him with 32 year old cabaye that would be madness

They will not sign Wiltshire to replace cabaye because as you said the wages would be too much . As for Cabaye he wanted more money by the looks of it and although was good for us how many more games are left in his tank, at premiership level .Its how we replace and upgrade which is the major factor, I would imagine parish and co would have known cabaye’s plans a couple of weeks ago and have lined a replacment up .

Great character on the pitch too. Always in the refs ear and leaving the odd foot in the opponent. Loved watching him.

Hear hear. I don't think he'll be as easy to replace as some people may think.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

I think unless he took reduced wages, both sides, nobody wants him. 90k a week, you can get better players for that wage no offense.

Guaranteed starting spot
Manager who picked him for England
Style of play under Hodgson would suit him
Chance to play with Zaha
Doesn't have to disrupt family by moving

Having said that, he seems more like a West Ham pick up and the previous time he had a chance to join he chose Bournemouth (admittedly Pardew was manager then)

Think with Cabaye going he is a more attractive proposition for the club. Maybe they are still harbouring hopes for RLC who didn't boost his standing with Belgium display and had Dier picked ahead of him as sub v Colombia
