BT Whole Home WiFi

With apologies for the self-indulgence, but I'd be interested to hear comments on the BT Whole Home WiFi product (mesh network discs) if anyone out there has bought it. I get excellent broadband speeds to my BT Smart Hub, but the WiFi signal from hub to devices drops off very rapidly in strength and range as you move away from the hub. 'A couple of rooms away' there is no signal at all (I live in an old house with lots of twists and turns ie walls!). People have suggested trying a new router, but many internet commentators say that the BT Smart Hub still has one of the best WiFi ranges on the market, so I wonder if the mesh system would be a better option. One associated question (and I think it's a dumb question) - does each disc need its own mains supply? I would assume so, but in the shiny BT promo videos, there isn't a mans lead to be seen. Obviously the need for a mains socket will restrict where each disc can be placed. No overly technical answers or suggestion please. I won't understand them! I got stumped on the mesh network things. My ZX81 with 16K RAMPAK is still going strong. Have you tried hitting the problem with a large metal hammer ? It worked on my wife I disengage, I turn the page.

No I haven't tried that yet, but one of my daughters threatened something similar if I don't get it sorted.

I currently have the latest bt router but the last room in the flat, furthest away doesn't get strong enough signal. currently using an old plugged in extender from maplins, but thinking of getting the bt disk system when I have the doe. its highly rated on amazon, I will say that.

I would suggest a BT broadband extender instead. I have one and it works very well by using your internal house wiring. For those who have not heard of it. Its looks like a power plug with an internet connection. You put the transmitter into your power socket near your hub and attach an Ethernet cable from the extender to your hub. In another room you plug in a receiver and attach the Ethernet cable to your Smart TV / laptop / tablet etc. I use mine for my BT TV (Youview) box which is nowhere near my telephone point and BT hub. I believe you can have multiple receivers but this is where my knowledge gets hazy. Anyway no need to worry about WiFi reception. They are not expensive I think I bought my transmitter and 2 receivers for £40 if you call BT they should be able to assist with your individual requirements. I hope this helps One more point

There were continual 'conflicts' and no end of visits back to Maplin could solve it. They even said that the BT version is basically the same kit.
