I'd be more sympathetic if they didn't waste so much money. I also resent paying out to fund care for the 250k new arrivals every year who have contributed next to nothing and keep on coming year after year.

Heard a doctor on LBC who said the costs around health tourists is vastly underestimated. He say he has been campaigning for 5 years but NHS management don't care. On a previous show I heard a doctors receptionist complain that many people were wrongly listed as UK citizens and that it was nudge nudge wink wink. You do wonder if we had id cards how many people would disappear from the lists. I went to Moorfields recently as a walk in. I first had to prove I was eligible for free treatment this took about 2 mins it was no big deal and it wasn't done by doctors or nurses but by admin staff. Cameron had the right idea but it was never passed. Anyone coming to this country cannot claim benefits until they have paid taxes for for so many years (I would say 5 ). This would not apply to genuine refugees. Do all this and I will support more taxes. Oh I forgot to mention before we cut up taxes cancel HS2 and reduce the foreign aid budget that should give the NHS a bit more. Edited by Badger11 (24 May 2018 8.28am)

Although there are 120 thousand non-British citizens working in the NHS... The people 'contributing next to nothing' are the elderly, whose number is also going up year on year and who are in most need of medical support and social care. How are we supposed to solve that crisis without turning to migration?

It’s racist or xenophobic, despite most of the world operating that way. The increases needed or treatment to be dropped are no surprise. We could start charging a few people for prescriptions, appointments, missing appointments.

All evidence shows immigrants pay more in than they take out and are less likely to claim benefits or healthcare than people from the UK. They also provide a significant proportion of the NHS staff (my wife is French and is a doctor at Great Ormond Street Hospital dealing with children with traumatic brain injuries and othe neurological conditions such as brain cancer as an example). The NHS also "wastes" vastly less than they do in the US, and other systems which use insurance and require inordinate amounts spent on administration. The NHS has also managed to increase productivity by c1.2% pa, in line with it's long term trend, since the GFC, something the wider economy has failed to do. This is in spite of cuts to services and cuts to per patient budgets and investment in services. I'd suggest you think before you spout bigotry next time.
