The left back position has been ok this year, with PVA having a lot of great games and Schlupp deputising quite well.

But to get to the next level...there are a few options on the market. Neither Kurzawa, Alex Telles nor Philipp Max have made the World Cup squads (for France, Brazil and Germany), which will keep their price lower than many other left backs after the competition. (it may not seem so now, but just wait after the World Cup and you'll see how recent memory will have prevalence in price making).

Schlupp cost 15 million last summer and now is worth at least just that much. So, selling Schlupp would give the club 15 million to spend.

Kurzawa has ben extraordinary in the last years in France. Probably one of the top 5 left backs in the world in my opinion. 14 goals and 15 assists in the last 6100 minutes in Ligue 1 and the Champions League in the last 3 seasons. That's better than most left midfielders! 11 matches in the national team. Was undisputed starter last year, but had a conflict with the PSG bosses. Berchiche is nowhere the player he is, but had some matches and Kurzawa was upset that Berchiche got this much playing time. Now they want to sell him and will accept 22 million offers. He is on Tottenham's, Arsenal's and Chelsea's radar, but if nothing comes from these, he could end up in a mid-table PL team. It would mean a 7 million investement+ the sale of Schlupp. Kurzawa has 65.000 a week, 10 more than Schlupp's 55.000.

Alex Telles has had 5 goals and 31 assists in the last 9000 minutes in the Portuguese Liga, the Serie A and the Champions League in the last 3 seasons. He is on Everton's radar, who want him to replace Baines. Porto wanted 30 million for him, but they'll probably accept a 25 million offer. So, similar investment as above: sell Schlupp+ 10 million. He is behind Marcelo, Filipe Luis, Alex Sandro for the national team.

Philipp Max has suprised the Bundesliga this year with his assists. 3 goals and 16 assists in his last 5000 minutes in the Bundesliag, in the last 2 seasons. But nothing before that (though you could argue that he was too young, he's 24 now). Not selected by Low for the German squad, but monitored by even Manchester City. Though I don't think they'll make an offer and they'd actually want to see him playing for a mid-table PL club before they take him. He'd also cost around 22-25 million pounds.

Of course, getting one of these left backs would mean PVA would only drop to backup. But it would be a next level improvement, at least for this position. If this is done for all positions, the club would go from 10th to 5th or 6th in the table.

Of course, they might not agree to come to Palace. But it seems to me that an 11th place finish in the PL is a good position to attract players. It seems that this team will still be at least mid-table next seasons and this attracts players who want stability and not fight against relegation.
If ofers from Man Cityor Tottenham will not come for them, they might want to come. The Premier League has the advantage that it offers the highest wages. So, Philipp Max from Germany (who doesn't make much in Augsburg) would surely be tempted by the money. And in the case of Alex Telles or Kurzawa, it would be about how much they care about the financial part or playing in the Champions League. And i'm pretty sure that instead of going to a team like AS Roma and playing in the Champions League for 30.000 a week, they would rather come to the Premier League on higher wages. At least the Brazilian players. We have so many examples of them choosing China.

I would imagine that left back is the position that the management team will spend the least amount of time worrying over as there are more important positions to spend our limited budget on

My understanding is that the deal was £9 Mill rising to £11.7 Mill.
I really don't think anyone would pay £15 Mill for Schlupp.

Oh, ok, I was thinking in euros. I knew it was 14-15 million from transfermarkt. But they show prices in euros.

Jeffrey Schlupp must be near to the top of RH most valued players, the look of relief on RHNone of the face when he could select him.

With a thin PL squad prone to injuries he is invaluable giving you PL quality in a variety of positions.

Sell in haste, get relegated at leisure.

If you had a list of PL quality players looking for a new club it would be a different matter but I think the market is dead as in January.

Unless you are prepared to pay 20 millions + , for Jeffrey Schlupp for example?

No wonder BS left.

I've warmed to the idea that Matteo is secretly a misunderstood super scout, aching to be heard by Palace who knows the market far better than anyone at the club.

A little more selectiveness would hugely help his posts. Otherwise, when he says "I said last year this player would do well" the cynics among us will simply reply: 'yeah and you said the same about 9,000 others too'.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Honestly I can't see us having a hope in hell of signing Kurzawa. He could walk into a lot of CL teams (even if not in England, surely another French side, German, Spanish, hell Russia if he wanted the money).

Same issue with Telles but moreso because of money. Portuguese teams are notorious for charging top dollar for their players, especially when dealing with English clubs who they know have money to burn. I can't see him going for less than £30m.

Max is the only one with an outside chance of signing but realistically there are far more pressing concerns then upgrading our left back or even backup left back when it's one of the few positions in the team that we have solid and quality cover for already.

Not sure we have an issue at all at left back even if Souare goes. Reidewald is left footed so he could step in as third choice if there were injuries to both PVA and Schlupp.

I would much rather see the money spent on a right back if Ward goes, or if Ward stays, on a winger or pacy attacker.
