I don't think I'm alone here in stating that I feel better about next season's premier league than I ever have. The one possible exception was in 2015 when Pardew was returning (although we all know how that ended).

To summarize (only the last 5 years, not going back to our previous years in PL, as we went straight down):

2013 - won championship game under Holloway, we were the clear favourites to go right back down

2014 - Pulis leaves, and we are in disarray.

2015 - Pardew saved us from relegation, staying on for next year. Overall think it's looking good,

2016 - not optimistic as Pardew is in charge after a disastrous second half run.

2017 - Allerdyce leaves us, unknown of FdB takes over. Starts moving players around and we look lost in the pre-season.

2018 - For the first time since 2015 we (likely) have a returning manager. Team is playing exciting football which is putting even the top 6 teams on notice. The one big negative is losing RLC back to Chelsea.

If we can get a strong attacking mid (a better Puncheon), then I really think we can challenge for Europe next year. I don't think any team outside of the top 6 is as good as us.

But it's a long off-season, so a lot could change.

I feel very positive but then that’s me all over generally anyway

Seriously though, very positive. Roy has proved his doubters inc me wrong, he’s a bloody terrific manager. Tactician, and doesn’t get fooled easily. And what I mean by that is, he’s opened said Dougie didn’t do a good job in January and things have to pick up this summer now.

The players respect him like they did Allardyce but I’m sure they prefer this style of play, we scared of no one, even the biggest nearly fell to us, who knows what we are capable of plus two decent key first team era next season

We could gain a champs league spot or finally win a cup, it’s all very possible with this side, not just a pipe dream.

You younger palace fans don’t know how lucky you are.

Hmmm.

Summer 2017: optimistic because we had Allardyce now and playing well again. What happened: he left, de Boer came in. Toilet.

Summer 2016: optimistic because Pardew had been decent before and with a proper summer and a good bollocking could surely get his s*** together. Plus which he had managed to get to an FA Cup Final so he couldn't be that bad, could he? What happened: he contined to manage like an arse. Toilet.

Summer 2015: optimistic because Pulis had got us to mid-table and things looked stable. What happened: Pulis f***ed off two days before the start of the season and left us scrambling to get Warnock in. Toilet.

Bout time we came back from the Summer and found that we hadn't had some sort of disaster in the close season. Would make a change.

I have always felt optimistic about this point in the summer for the last five years, then sometime between May and August it all goes mad. Roy seems stable but my money is that by June he will have joined the kurdish resistance force fighting in Syria and David Moyes will be in charge

The good news is that in none of those seasons were we flushed

Survival breeds it’s own excitement and last off season I was delighted that Wilf wanted to stay. I can’t really see how that would change given our finish this season. Provided we pin down further key players and more importantly Roy for next season then the challenge for Europe or at least not tickling the bollocks of relegation for 18/19 seems like our horoscope.

Too many variables to be optimistic at this stage. Specifically the out of contract players, what bids we'll get for Wilf, and our still-unpublished (unless I missed it) report and accounts.

The squad is in good shape, it’s gona be quality rather than quantity this summer hopefully. AWB is a god send as he saves us £10m plus on a right back for a start.

No you haven't missed anything. Seven weeks overdue. I know the late fees are small beer for companies, but I can see the PL starting to ask questions soon in respect of our compliance with FFP. I can't think of a good reason why we are the only PL club in this position; some submitted their accounts last December.

I disagree. You can still be optimistic.
You’re more likely to be disappointed given the variables, but it’s still possible.

I don’t think I ever thought we were going down this season because I’m quite optimistic. However if we had gone down i wouldn’t have been optimistic about our finances next season at all. Let’s see how Roy and Dougie do.

I’m not an expert but it is fairly common practice for companies to extend or miss deadlines such as this. It does raise questions but not ones that businessmen such as our Chairman and Partners aren’t used to. Not that you are but i don’t see anything to worry about. Should we wait until some contracts are ended and others reduced this could play out well for us potentially.

If this is true you are the definition of an optimist indeed!!

Personally I think talking about Europe or even CL is a recipe for disappointment. Keep Wilf, add a striker and attacking midfielder and I would be happy with a mid table season and hoping for a good cup run.
