Just thought i'd start a thread as I'm looking for some advice for when I am in Thailand, will be there for 3 weeks commencing mid June. Wanted to know if there was any Dos/Donts from people who live/have been? Internet is rife with completely random information and would appreciate any insight from those whose opinions are genuine! Also wanted to know if there will be places to watch the world cup games in Bangkok, Phuket, Ko Samui? All help appreciated

I've been to Thailand several times, last trip I spent 2 months there. Fantastic country and lovely people, totally non-aggressive and very polite and welcoming. Never had any probems whatsoever there, in fact was very nice to feel much safer than being in teh UK or some other countries in Europe. Bangkok has thousands of bars/cafes that show football, so World Cup won't be a problem at all. There are also loads of expat pubs (which I always avoid) if that's your kind of thing. Phuket also has loads of bars that will show the WC, same as many of the popular islands such as Ko Samui. I love the food there, you can find anything. I hope to go again soon, only got back 4 weeks ago

Really looking forward to it now, and appreciate the advice. Glad that i will be able to catch the WC games!! (despite time differences)

If you're going to be in Bangkok then definitely check out Koh Chang. Easy to get to and seemingly unspoiled. Get the bus to the coast and catch the ferry. Oh, and when in BK believe no one when they tell you a temple (or tourist attraction) is closed that day... it isn't. Enjoy the food.

Re: the World Cup; I found a bar in Koh Chang to watch the Tri Nations rugby (as it was in those days) so footy will be a piece of cake.

Been many times went last year to krabi, and Bangkok The airport is connected by the airport rail link, not the skytrain. They both connect at Phayathai. I've been many times and still find it incredibly cheap. Bangkok is more expensive but you can still eat well there for €5 in any one of the fantastic food courts in the malls. Street food half that price. Of course Sterling has dropped, so that has added 20% to everything but 20% of not very much isn't very much. I'm from Euro land, so haven't been affected by Sterling. Taxis are cheap to use, always insist on the meter being switched on. Edited by europalace (30 Apr 2018 10.37pm)
