He has entered into a voluntary insolvency arrangement, four months after it emerged he was being privately prosecuted over a car crash that almost ended his career.
It is understood he has had problems with paying a tax bill and HMRC are one of his major creditors:

If he wasn't working I could understand. He must be in real financial trouble as we are paying him a good salary so presumably that still will not pay off his debts. I had a mate who owed HMRC it took him 10 years to pay it off they refused to write it off and rightly so.

If it wasn’t April 1 I’d not be so distrustful of stories.

If he wasn't earning it would be less of a surprise - but he must be on a good weekly wage. Hope legitimate creditors don't end up getting screwed.

They probably will. As the HMRC will get theirs before the small creditors get paid. Arseholes.

Not so as Crown Preference was abolished a few years ago

How anyone can get into debt on their ages amazes me.... however, if they have a gambling or addiction problem or victim to fraud, understandable.

I always said, if i was a footballer, i would live a modest life - when you think of the average poster on here, what their lifestyle costs per year then compare it to a professional top tier footballer, shows that a lot are out of touch or at the least have bad advisors looking out for #1.

Let's use Wilf as an example, his lifestyle as a kid, compared to what he has now - a lavish lifestyle which comes with it more out goings.

A person i know won the lottery and he was amazed at how quickly it went, well, if you are going to buy a 5 bedroom house, all ensuit, hire a live in nanny and chef, chauffeur, quit his job and lived off it, ofcourse that will eat up his winnings.

He's back in a semi in shirley, works part time, lost most of that lifestyle, but he's happy.

Make you wonder why he just didn't do that in the first place and invest it.

This was once a quality forum....

Level of earnings is irrelevant. If you do not PAYE then it is down to accountants advisers etc. Not saying Pape does not have ultimate control but given his last 20 months he probably put more reliance on them than normal. That’s why film/ pop stars go bust. Same thing.

That said bonne chance Pape!

Film stars / pop stars go bust because they ignore the advice of their accountant

I was wondering with the original car crash if someone else was injured? If this was the case and Pape was either not insured or the insurance was voided ( if he had been drinking /speeding ) then he could potentially been sued by the victim for compensation which could be quite sizeable depending on the injuries they may have suffered.
