Sad news emerging about Butch. A great player, coach and pundit. Ex palace among other great clubs. Hope he pulls through....

That is very sad news, it is always good to hear his football punditry on the radio. I remember his first game for QPR and it was at Palace and he ran the show in midfield. They called him “ the crab” as he always moved the ball the width of the pitch and never forward. He was a better player than that and always gave it his all in an England shirt...

He went off to QPR later that same season once he had recovered. He is still fighting which is great to see this morning. Fingers crossed for the true gentleman.

Will never forget his "Liverpool are majestic and nobody can beat them" comment at half time during the semi final at Villa Park. Minutes later mayhem ensued..talk about commentators curse

Don't think he was sent off, pretty sure he broke his ankle on his debut in a pretty calamitous season. His son used to play in goal for someone or other that my team played against, remember seeing Ray at a few games. Speaks with clarity and experience as a pundit and comes across as a thoroughly decent, dry and down to earth guy.

From the match report of that game - Former Stockport County striker Andy Preece was taken to hospital with back trouble after 24 minutes. Former England captain Ray Wilkins was booked and limped off eight minutes early and uncertain Darren Pitcher, signed from Charlton, presented Liverpool with their crucial third goal.

But still very sad, sounds bad and I wish him well.
