Is there a valid reason they can't make this road a dual carriageway ? it constantly makes me give up the will to live.

Assume you're talking about Croydon Road? The fact its taking 3 months to relay and widen Beddington lane, I cannot begin to imagine how long making Croydon Road a dual carrieway would take haha

Widening it would mean encroaching on common land and Mitcham Golf course.

Not sure of how Common land gets re-designated (even if it can), but I do know when the council wanted to add indented bus stops along Commonside East that was a hell of a long process and consultation.

Fvcking awful road you're glad you don't have to use regularly when you happen to need to use.

Is that golf course private? It's a bit crumbly in the club house isn't it?

The Council were going to put 20mph along there, but realised there was no point, as you can never reach 20mph, due to continual congestion.

I believe that they have a long lease and anyone can turn up and play.

Their website states "The club dates back to the early 1890s when the Board of Conservators charged with looking after Mitcham Common agreed to let an 18-course be constructed - provided it did not enclose the land and deprive the borough residents from exercising their "common rights" to walk or exercise."

We used to ride our bikes across there in the 70's and some of the golfers hadn't read the bit about allowing borough residents their exercise rights.

As for playing there, according to the website prices are from £15 which is about what I used to pay back in the 90's.

They've put 20 mph in some daft places. Long open roads I'm talking about. Pampisford road might have school kids during the day but you get paranoid drivers needlessly driving at 20 with 20 cars behind at night l. And Purley Downs Road is going to have a serious accident with someone overtaking a 20 mph driver with nobody in sight on foot.

The entire borough except for the TFL controlled roads. It's daft, we have national speed limits not ones decided by boroughs.

On top of the fact that they must have spend hundreds of thousands on all the new signs and the cost of installing them, while the roads are literally falling apart. Prats.

Optimistic as ever

Its all due to the incinerator and the lorries that need to get to it, hence widening the road, thanks tom brake for caving in !

Purley Downs Road is a really stupid move to put at 20. I used to get people overtaking me whilst going 35 along there, and the 20 limit isn't going to stop people. Like you say, accident waiting to happen.

The 20mph signs are a joke, they are only advisory not compulsory, as stated by Croydon Council.
It may be a radical idea, but instead of wasting money on 100s of these signs, they could use the money to repairing the crumbling road surfaces.
