Whilst like everyone here I hope above hope we survive this year just wondering if our standard player contracts give us the ability to reduce wages in the event of relegation. You look at the Sunderland / Rodwell fiasco and just hope we don't potentially have players we cannot shift who just hang around for the wages
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I remember a few years back, a documentary on Birmingham where they said these had effectively become impossible. the players you'd want simply wouldn't sign for you if you insisted. Since then, the gap between the PL and the championship has ballooned so perhaps the clubs with a higher risk of relegation became more insistent.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

Doesn’t Sky money give parachute payments to the relegated?

We'll be screwed if we go down, several players are 9n 100k+ and I don't know many championship clubs with many players over 50k. Basically our whole starting 11 would have to be shifted as I don't think many would like a pay cut if it even in their contracts. Zaha

Moving Benteke and Sakho out will be crucial and very very difficult I reckon. I doubt those 2 have relegation clauses. Just a hunch. It took signing Benteke's brother to get him signed and then there's Sakho who named himself #soldierreturns or something on his instagram photo when signing permanently, then no sign of him at Spurs and is he at training on Tuesday when sending instagram videos out at 11am or at training on Wednesday when going to France for his charity? Cabaye is out of contract. A couple of the others I'm concerned don't have relegation wage clauses. People saying or counting on promotion or a very competitive side are hopeful and guessing, seeing as they've no idea who'll be here, who we'll buy so no idea of the team at all really.

If they don't have relegation clauses then I really would be disappointed in Parish. We don't know of course but as we are a yo yo team it is not the same as say Arsenal getting relegated. Someone mentioned Sunderland it is not just Rodwell I think most of that squad didn't have clauses. Not only can you not get rid of them as other clubs wont pay the same wages it also impacts on your recruitment. Who wants to sign for a club on 5k when the rest of the squad is on 50k (and not performing). It has taken Aston Villa years to unwind that mess and I suspect the same applies to Sunderland.

This is their 2nd season in the championship and they're now 3rd and waiting.

After A.Villa were relegated a number of their players were sold on ie the likes of Lescott,Okore,N'Zogbia, Gueye,Sinclair,Gestede,Ayew,Veretout,Bennett,Gil,Sanchez etc. They finished 13th in the Championship last season but are now challenging for promotion.Steve Bruce has done an excellent job.

If we are relegated, I would expect most of the first team to attract bidders and be sold. The parachute payments are very generous and should cover any who refuse to budge. Due to his injuries, Wickham could be the most problematic player to shift but even then I could see someone taking him on a season long lone. Obviously it's all guess work and hopefully irrelevant.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

I would guess (because I don't know for sure) that most players would have a clause in their contract in the event of relegation. I could be wrong

I could be wrong Wasn't AJ's contract renewed with a higher wage that he'd get at the likes of Everton? That was the added cost and calculated risk/gamble. I'd guess as well that most (I hope it is most) have relegation clauses, but I've a feeling some of the cream earners won't. Benteke and Sakho the most obvious. They left Liverpool being the biggest clue, then there's players with transfer fees so high it seems ridiculous that relegation is a possibility in a team they sign for so why would they (should they in the players' eyes) accept those terms?
