Kind of under-rated, or unrecognised.

Saw them at Hammerschiff Odeon in 1988 on their 'justice for all' tour. Their earlier stuff was a lot better. They had the bassist Cliff Burton at the time (early 80's), but he died.
They also had a guitarist called Dave Mustane in the late 1980's, but there was a beer-fuelled discussion between Dave Mustane and James Hetfield and Dave went on to form Megadeth

I've seen Metallica loads of times, more by accident than design.

Metallica supported AC/DC in 1991 at Monsters of Rock (pronounced, 'RAAAWWWK')
Although AC/DC had produced a massive selling album in 'Back in Black' in 1980, Metallica's own Black album very soon surpassed them to be one of the best-selling albums of all time.
I find it surprising that Metallica were a support band.

Even more surprising that Metallica supported Aerosmith at Woodstock 1994.

I pay homage to Metallica

"One" is probably the finest piece of rock sculptures this side of mt. Rushmore !

Early stuff was tremendous. Anything after the black album sucked ass.

Death magnetic showed signs of a return to form...

Their early stuff was great.
Garage Days and Creeping Death E.P's were awesome
I wasn't too sure about the Black Album. It seemed very commercial, but it got the record sales and made Heavy Metal into mainstream.

(Seeing them in 1991 at the Monsters of Rawk (supporting AC/DC), I recall this Dutch woman next to me, almost crying, "please play 'Unforgiven'"
I wanted to smash her face in , because I wanted them to play 'Hit the Lights'. Much like Palace playing in the EPL, their successful black album drew in some dubious fans)

Load and Re-Load were kind of a poorly worded epitaph.

I was reminiscing because I was watching a youtube video of their 1988 gig at Hamerschmit Odeon (now the Labbatt's Apollo, or summit)

when it comes to gigging, they are awesome. They still RAWWWK

Garage days and Re-Revisited still gets a listen often in my playlist.
Some excellent covers in there. BreadFan and Whiskey in the jar - two of the best covers produced.

I liked the Black album, but probably only because that was my 'Entry point' - that and Appetite for Destruction was the reason I got into rock/metal.

very quickly realised that their best albums were then behind them!

they were (and Still are) Awesome live though.
