justify your choices in each case. worst clattenburg...a million dodgy decisions, a cloud of controversy that follows him and that photo with ferguson before making a balls of it at the fa cup final. howard webb...thought he was good. that world cup final where the Dutch team took up Karate, not his finest moment. best.

I seem to remember Uriah Rennie being a bit of a cnut, another one that seemed to like being the centre of attention.

In the interests of HOL I have decided not to offer my opinions on this thread for as sure as night follows day it will disintegrate into vitriol and opprobrium akin to rooks squabbling over carrion with the thread being de-railed by feuds. In the words of 'Midlands Eagle' "Same old, same old".

good - grey haired fella, 20 odd years ago - always reffed with a smile on his face can't remember his name (but good refs should be invisible) bad - the ego refs who love the controversy: ellery, clattenburg etc. chances are, if I don't know your name, you're probably pretty good

In the words of 'Midlands Eagle' "Same old, same old". its ok willo. The coast is clear. he has gone back to the bbs to abuse people with impunity. cmon. Its a football subject on a football discussion board. If anybody mentions the advantages of electoral systems in Sweden over those in France i will recommend them for strong medicinal sedation , and a digital referee's yellow card. now, getting back to topic. Which is better refereeing ? allow the game to flow or to stop the game frequently as needed ? Edited by PalazioVecchio (23 Feb 2018 2.07pm)

I don't see how there can be any argument with that. But it's a shame he threw a large chunk of his credibility away by signing the praises of that king of bellends Clattenburg. As for the worst referees - there's a list here: [Link]

David Ellery - utter w***er. One of those 'big I am' refs who thinks they're always right, head up their ass type. Keith Hackett stands out as a decent one but I was quite young in his day and may have missed some things.
