Much as I believe that Roy has steadied the ship, I thought that his comments on Sky after the match were somewhat inappropriate. He complained that when he was interviewed, he wasalways asked for his comments on incidents and refereeing decisiona rather than tactical knowledge. With Zaha in the wrong position, we could have been 3-0 down at the break if Hennessey hadn't kept us in it.
Let's keep the ball this season! |

He does seem to like 442, and more than a few times this season he's started thd gamd like thus and then changed it ar half time, which sees us improve a lit. Zaha isn't a centre forward, he's an out and out winger and as our best player should play in his best position.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Coincidence or poor tactics' by Midlands Eagle I have lost count of the number of games where we have started poorly this year and then grown into the match either once we have gone a goal down or once Roy has had a chance to change things at half time. We have certainly turned more results round this year than I can remember for many years. What is the reason though? I'm not 100% sure and appreciate opinions on this but IMO playing Wilf up front is simply not working. As soon as he moves out to the wing, we pick up the tempo, the oppositions full backs are tied to their defensive duties and all of a sudden we gain traction in the match and start applying pressure rather than being under pressure. Is Roy tactically wrong in starting Wilf down the middle, or is it just coincidence that we have played better as soon as he moves out there and there is some other subtle change he is making that I am missing? I would much prefer that we play the whole match in the manner we played the second half against Newcastle. We have done that only once this season against Leicester and we know how that ended up.

If I have interpreted his comments correctly, in my estimation he was saying that rather than ask questions about the game as a whole, interviewers have had a proclivity to just concentrate on single incidents and refereeing decisions. Perhaps he had had a spate of these recently and would far rather comment on the performance of his team over the entire game and the tactics employed. At the end of the day managers can get "Into hot water" by making references to the performances of referees !

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Coincidence or poor tactics' by Midlands Eagle It must be obvious that Zaha is a top-class winger and should be used as such. The question is then if he goes up in the middle behind Benteke, where do the crosses come from? Townsend, van Aanholt, Fosu-Mensah, and the midfielders but with no winger on the opposite side from Townsend our balance is gone. We now have the option of Sørloth up there next to Benteke with Zaha and Townsend wingers and we were bossing the spam on Tuesday with Bakary Sako in that role, until Zabaleta crippled him. Something about our tactics hasn't been too bad since Newcastle away -- and this Wilf-through-the-middle-then-switch thing has often been going on since about then.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

In my opinion, Zaha behind the center forward is useful in matches when opponents have more possession (which are most matches), because of the stamina he has and the pressing and recoveries heis capable of. He can cover a lot of ground from a central position. In matches (or second halves like with Newcastle) when the team is pushing the opponent in their penalty box and has possession, clearer minds of players like Cabaye (a maestro) or McArthur seem better in the center, they can provide better infiltrating passes.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Coincidence or poor tactics' by Midlands Eagle Whilst Townsend was truly awful yesterday our strengths are playing him and Wilf out wide with Mac, Cabaye and Luca in the middle - we didn't do that in the first half and despite having some chances we looked poor.
