Is this the new Cheick Diabate thread ? Hoping one day we will have a decent enough transfer window not to list the free agents the next day. In relation to Song, if he is going for one, might be worth a shout, although I don't think this position is that important until the summer.

Why do you think he was awful?

Most of the West Ham fans remember him as being ok. His first matches were actually considered class. He kind of faded away in his final period, but they were having a bad time as a whole

I’d worry that we’d have another Adebayor or Aruna Dindane. If you haven’t been playing regularly, and no preseason, he might take ages to get fit, there are only 13 games left.

He is currently training with Arsenal, and if he was close enough to fitness I’d take him, but I think we are better off going for Ross Turnbull on a short contract for GK cover.

Because he could not be bothered and it showed. It is not a position we should be looking for someone either. I would like to see some youth come through, some players whose hearts pump for red and blue and connect with the club and the fans. Wilf has it in abundance, Luka has only been here a short while but I think a lot of us feel he actually feels for the club and cares. Thats what I want. Song is the opposite of that, Like Adebayor was.

Clubs have to really think about how a player of his class becomes a free agent. And then look for someone else to sign.

My guess is that if we have a free slot available in the 25 it will be kept for emergencies in case both of our keepers get crocked

Logical thing to do would be to sign recently turned 30 years old, quality proven Alex Song on a free transfer instead of paying 16 million for 25 years old in April Ibrahim Amadou from Lille.

Alex Song can easily play in his 30s in the center back line, as he has a lot of experience (just like Mascherano or Helguera played in their 30s in the back line, coming from defensive midfield).

There's no reason except the 5 year difference why Amadou should cost more than Song. The Cameroonian is proven, he has done well in the Premier League. You know what you're buying.
Amadou could or could not be the next Didier Ndong.

Ok, if Amadou cost around 3-4 million, it would be logical to get the younger guy.
But getting Alex Song would mean a 16 million expenditure saving. Money which could be used to get players in other much needed positions: right wingback, side midfielders, second striker, keeper.

Now this I agree with . Makes good business sense and more money available to strengthen in other areas.
