I'd be interested to know what others think about incorporating a 'safe standing' area within the new stadium development plans. The official stance from the football authorities (that it is dangerous and contributes to hooliganism) has softened dramatically over the past few years and there is a distinct possibility that some clubs will convert existing areas within their grounds as soon as this summer I for one would love to amplify the already incredible atmosphere of Selhurst by adding a designated safe standing area either within the new stand or by converting an existing portion of the Holmesdale. The feedback from Celtic fans - who have converted a corner of Celtic Park - is overwhelmingly positive. Would love to know what the esteemed HOLers think,,,,,,,,,,,,

No way it will happen in the new Main Stand, that is the 'money stand' as one poster bluntly calls it on another forum. The other 3 sides all have the potential though. Whitehorse would be very easy, as it was a terrace until 1993, so would be a very simple conversion. Added bonus of doing it there is that the family stand could be relocated somewhere else where the kids can see the big screen Arthur Wait enclosure - incredible acoustics here. But suspect the club would want to keep the side stands as seating as they can charge more for the side on view seats Holmesdale Lower - logical as it is where the atmosphere is, and the HF stand already. If this is where it does go, the club would have to be sensitive in allowing vast swathes of season ticket holders to move to other stands, as a lot of Holmesdale Lower S/T's would still prefer to sit As for will it happen - I believe it will, yes. Shrerwsbury have got a section of it I believe, and there is a fair chance they will be promoted to the Championship soon. When they come up, are the authorities really going to rip it out? If they can have it, everyone else will want it too. And haven't Brentford got terracing anyway?

Brentford have been allowed to keep it because they've been given planning permission for a new stadium Would love to be able to stand up permanently instead of spending 90 mins sat down Edited by J4COB65 (27 Jan 2018 8.42pm)

It operate s abroad, and without problems so far. It is on a rail system, easy to remove/put back in the seats. Would be surprised oIf it was nor at least trialled in a couple of grounds in the next couple of seasons.

It’s simply got to happen and I’m sure it will. Fans will always stand in certain parts of the ground at all stadiums regardless of the rules. It’s the safest thing to do as seats become obstacles when you’re not using them. I suspect blocks A-D in the Holmesdale lower to start with. Would imagine demand in that area would be so high that it would soon spread to the whole lower tier. Perhaps many long term ST holders who prefer to sit would be attracted to the new main stand for an improved view. Sooner the better I say. I’d be desperate to get a ST in there.

Im sure if they want they could have a standing section in the main stand. The whole point of it is two fold. 1. To create a better atmosphere Standing zone as I understand would allow more people in and thus any reduction in ticket price in that area would be offset against more people being in that area. Added bonus is the extra people would spend more at the bars etc. I'll be gobsmacked if any club is introducing this to take less revenue.... So yes it won't be in a corporate box area, but apart from that it could be placed anywhere including the new stand. At least that's how I understand it works...

The new safe standing areas abroad are re-convertible into seats if required e.g. for Champions league games. So you don't actually get more punters in. Hence I wouldn't hold your breath for any price reductions.

In the Bundesliga, they allow 1.5 people per space, whilst I would imagine they would give us a 1:1 ratio.

Would be amazed if clubs changed anything that didn't then result in extra revenue. Would imagine we'd be similar to the Bundesliga with an extra 50% attendance in those areas. Ticket prices could drop by mayeb 25% and the club would still be making 10% more in that area. £40 ticket could be sold for £30.00 in a standing area. Club would pocket extra £5.00 compared to the £40 seats. Fans get in cheap. Great atmosphere. 1000 seats converted would equal 1500 standing. 1000 @ £40 = £40k Plus 500 extra punters in the stadium drinking and eating in the bars...

Makes perfect sense for the Whitehorse to become the standing area initially. If we are going to do something with the old boxes upstairs then we can presumably get another seated area in with a decent roof over it to amplify the sound. Get the HF and others who fancy it to move from the Holmesdale Rd end. I would swap the season tickets holders of the Arthur down the other end of that stand and move the away supporters to the Holmesdale end of the stand. If the trial is successful and we get significant numbers wanting to stand I would in the future turn the whole of the Holmesdale lower tier into standing. A full standing lower tier Holmesdale would be an awesome sight.
