Swedish midfielder to join Crystal Palace until end of the season, loan deal for 21 year old
By Lucas Sposito - 18th January 2018

Crystal Palace are reportedly signing Benfica midfielder Erdal Rakip on a loan deal until the end of the season.

It’s the Portuguese outlet A Bola who are reporting the deal tonight, after some speculation came from Sweden earlier today.

There’s not much info for now, but it’s unlikely the London side will have an option to sign the player in the future, since A Bola claims that Rakip is seen by Benfica as a man for the future.

This is a curious situation, because only a few days ago, Rakip was still a free agent. He left Malmo at the end of his contract, and his move to Benfica still hasn’t been confirmed everywhere.

There were reports in Sweden earlier today that Rakip would become a Benfica player and then immediately move to the Premier League, but Crystal Palace weren’t directly mentioned”

It was the 21-year-old himself who chose not to renew his contract with Malmo, and after picking Benfica as his next destination, he signed a deal which is set to run until 2023.

But first, a little stop in London at Crystal Palace.

Given that his wiki page says that he is 5'4 I am not expecting him to make much of an impact for us

Funnily enough i was ‘speaking’ about him with ‘someone’ at the pub last night.

He has two wonderful left feet and can take free kicks.

Amazingly, one of my sources just said the same thing. What was most pertinent was that he said Rakip has a habit of scoring free kicks around the wall on a wet Tuesday night in Malmo.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

I can suggest a better player... Someone called Johnny Williams. Look him up. I think he would love to play for Palace....

Perfect player to come in in the midst of an injury crisis... not. Best thing we can do for him is leave him at Sunderland, he should be fit from his dislocated shoulder in a week or so, he needs game time, and I hope he manages to get it for the rest of the season.

Not sure what to say about this one. If true, which I’m doubtful Smacks of desperation to me. Surely, surely we have better options than this. Is this what Dougie has been doing with his time..

On the clips for him he looks more like 5'9" as listed on his wiki link rather than 5' 4" as mentioned by a previous poster here. I guess we'd use him wide right swapping wings with Wilf during games judging from the clips. If Townsend is out or Wilf this makes sense to me; he could even be preferred to Andros perhaps?
