Hawaii missile alert

Crazy indeed. Two thoughts spring to mind: 1. Too many false alarms and the public will ignore them like a car alarm. 2. OK so its not a false alarm and you take heed of the warning. But what are you supposed to to when someone lobs a nuclear missile in your direction. My parents hid under the stairs / Anderson shelter during WWII. Not sure that will be good enough to save you from a full nuclear strike. In fact I would rather go outside and get obliterated instantaneously than hide and suffer a slow lingering death through radiation poison.

Thanks Becky. I would head for the nuclear fallout shelter unfortunately they will be full of politicians who probably caused the problem in the first place. Never understood that, why would need politicians? With the world in rubble I would think we need people with practical skills.

If there is a genuine nuke attack I suggest you just accept your time is up. Then go against a wall, preferably with someone else, and make a shape with 4 arms, 2 heads and 4 legs. When the bomb goes off your shadow will be left. In 10,000 years when the mutated version of Tony Robinson does Time Team and finds the wall it'll really confuse him as to what humans looked like. Also I think the Hawaii Laundrette Association and Walmart hacked into the warning system so the sales of washing powder would go through the roof due to soiled underwear.

Those Americans who were in Hawaii are probably trying to work out how to unsubscribe from the Emergency Alert system. I liked what Justin Thomas (golfer) did, johnno, he said he "opened up the sliding doors, sat on the couch and listened to some music. Nothing I can do."

A nuclear attack is a realistic possibility at some point over the coming decades. How realistic is unknowable. Essentially you and your dependents need to be able to live underground for three months with all the supplies and facilities required for that. Not easy, and unrealistic for most, but some people have that sorted and it's just a matter of getting there in time. If you have kids finding a solution to this is probably one of the better things you could do for them. Because the government has kissed your arse goodbye. If it was a full on, let's use everything we can and end humanity type of nuclear war then no water would be drinkable for many, many years due to the radiation that seeps into the ground. What animals that survived on the surface would, likewise, be inedible. The weather patterns would be horrendous. Much better to do as the golfer did in Stuks post or create confusing patterns for future mutated cockroach Time Team programmes.
