Shades of Maradona. Yet another handball goal is given, this time for Watford versus Southampton. An absolutely blatant handball yet neither referee Roger East or the AR see it and Southampton lose 2points as a result. It is no longer a matter of if VAR comes but when due to extremely poor officiating like this. I watched video of the match and East was consistently behind the play and out of position. My question is where are the assessors? Why aren't the match officials being held to the highest possible standards in a league that claims to be the best in the world?

Only seen pictures so far how linesman didn't see it is staggering and Southampton players booked for arguing. One picture in Daily Mail shows the linesman with the most arrogant look on his face as player protests...this sums officials up I am afraid

Seen that on MoTD and an absolutely outrageous piece of refereeing which renders yet another PL result unreliable. No problem with Saints dropping points though

Is diving not deceiving a match official in order to gain an advantage?

Just enquiringly as to what "Charge" you are thinking of. I think misconduct although Henry got away with it against Ireland so I can't see anything happening unless there is (or has been) a rule change.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

I've seen it argued that whilst both Doucoure and Henry handled it was an "Instinctive" reaction and in the case of Doucoure it was mentioned that it could have been an action to prevent his head from being damaged by the keeper. This is what Dermot Gallagher though of the Doucoure incident : " I believe,(The referee) is the victim here because he has no chance whatsoever. If you look where the player's head is, he moves his head forward… and the only person who can clearly see that that is handball is the goalkeeper. When you look at it sideways on, when you see the head go forward you cannot be sure at that distance whether he has headed it or not. The only person who knows is the player himself and obviously the goalkeeper " Graham Poll thought differently and felt that the referee should have spotted the incident. Maybe a percentage of say 98 percent should do and we need a committee of a hundred members. This example to me is very very obvious deceiving and I would think anyone arguing differently has either another agenda or is biassed.

Chelsea were diving like submarines yesterday so it's not surprising the ref started throwing the book at them. He didn't exactly take any s*** from Morata either. Pity they didn't get knocked out, they would have deserved it, the cheating tossers. If they hadn't tried such a blatant dive (Pedro I think?) in the first place Willian might have got more sympathy. I think he was definitely looking for it but if he'd tried to stay upright he'd either have scored or got a pen. Edited by chateauferret (18 Jan 2018 1.55pm)

I think the tackle is not on his leg but well ahead of it. Then he trails his leg to make the contact. We need to get away from the idea that: going down looking for it is acceptable. I get rather angry when commentators say: there was contact, yes and..... since when is contact synonym for fouling? Originally posted by chateauferret
