I went last night....I thought a few of our first team players just were not totally up for this one...I can understand that to a point , but I cannot understand Delaney’s performance...just not at the races...
His non reaction after Baldock hit the post in the second half for me was indicative of a player happy to be on the payroll for another year rather than busting a gut to get in the team...with that attitude combined with his aging body he really has to be released from the squad to free up space for more willing players

Based on his performances over the years, I don't think we can question his commitment. Its just that unfortunately he is now past it.

George Courtney, the World Cup referee, everyone is looking at him. When will he blow....?

He has been brilliant for us over the years. He's now not up to it and SHOULD have been released but for some reason we keep players we don't need instead of bringing in better replacments.

Yes Delaney tried but looked tired.

What's even more disappointing was Kaikai's performance, he's usually much more effective. I didn't see anything of value from him in the whole half despite several chances he had to really shine....looked out of his depth such a shame.

An excellent servant to the club, but clearly past it - should have been released at the end of last season.

I'm guessing that he was retained for use in emergencies only as this is the second season running when we have had a number of central defenders injured at the same time

i've never seen that when he's played in the 1st team. Always looks out of his depth

Clinton is Clinton. I have known him for a long time, I know his mother... Simon Jordan

Quite a few folk here said we had too many players who could cover that position - oh the irony!

Partway through the first half, Delaney lunked a longball to no one in particular and I thought to myself, uh oh here we go.

And a couple minutes later he seemed bored with how difficult playing the ball out of the back was, lunked another one to no one in particular, Brighton recovered and seconds later it was 1-0.

Gotta take issue with that. He had his moments. I remember he put Diego Costa in his pocket a couple of seasons back at Stamford Bridge. Top draw performance.

But he's not up to scratch now. Wish we'd played a youngster instead. He'd now have experience.

I'm disgusted with some of the abuse this veteran is currently getting now. Some idiots claiming that he got picked for errm dodgy reasons. Ridiculous. He got picked because we need Tomkins fully fit in the absence of Sakho and Dann. He's too old and has just come back from an operation, WTF do people expect?

I think he's one of those whose experience helps the younger players and may have taken over from Jedinak the role of dressing-room seargeant-major. He was also treated appallingly at that Sunderland game last season.

His powers may have waned but he's more than earned our respect over the years.

Quoted for truth. As Aray posted above, I too have fond memories of how the previously-unplayable Diego Costa was bossed by Damo along with the efforts he made to get us up and keep us up first time around. Other people seem to have short memories.

However, he's a liability at this level now and probably knows that himself, too. He's earned the right to pad his pension a bit more and maybe contribute to the club off the pitch in the future if he wants, but it's down to the Chairman and Manager now to find ways to ensure we don't have to expose him on the field anymore.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)
