How lucky can you be to be West Ham and to have Chelsea come at you wanting to get Andy Carroll and willing to let you have the unwanted striker Batshuayi to convince you to give up on Carroll? Unless there's something I'm not seeing here and there's a hidden gem quality to Carroll only Conte understands, I think every club would more likely have 24 year old Batshuayi than 29 year old Carroll. How cool if instead of Carroll they'd have gone for Benteke? Why don't we have that luck? Would you have let Benteke go to Chelsea and get faster, younger, better goalscorer Batshuayi? Edit: Did this get deleted?? Edited by mattteo (05 Jan 2018 11.30am)

Crazy move isn’t it. I do like Carroll, I think he’s a beast. But a Chelsea player!? Not in a million years. It’s like Liverpool signing Rickie Lambert all over again.

When I heard that a Premier League club was in for Carroll, I assumed it would be us.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

With this rumour and the purchase of Ross Barkley, one wonders if Chelsea are having problems meeting their home-grown players quota.
Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune) |

When he has played he has been awesome for West Ham. If he could stay on the pitch for a whole season I think you’d see his real quality. Rickie Lambert was an honest pro, Carroll has a lot more about him. Hurts me to say this. Can’t stand West Ham. Could be good for Palace though, every chance Carroll flops at Chelski with injuries etc. and every chance West Ham waste whatever they get for him, he is there talisman when he on the pitch and his contribution is worth 10+ points a season to them. Take him out without putting back quality into their squad and they’d be in trouble. Let it happen.

If Carroll was fit for long enough he'd be a quality striker...but there's the rub

Batshuayi is a better option (on the basis that he's generally available for all games, rather than maybe 10-15 games a season).

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football. |

I've never seen all this quality you guys mention about Carroll. All I've seen is a big, slow moving lump with some decent technique, a good left footed shot and great headers. Hardly worth the sum that Liverpool paid for him, but he was presented as the English poster boy back then. A big disappointment at Liverpool. Not extraordinary at West Ham either. Him not falling back, pressing or doing defensive responsibilities is a big problem. Someone mentioned that he is "like a beast". That's far from the player I've seen. Like a beast is Welbeck. Like a beast is Luis Suarez. Like a beast is Ciro Immobile. Like a beast is Vardy.

How is Vardy a beast? Just sounds like you don't know what beast means If I was a defender I'd hate to play against Carroll, you either stand up to him and go toe to toe or he will batter you. Vardy would be an easy afternoon, just get your offside trap right and bully him
