It appears in Austria that the new government has pulled back on a total ban in all pubs and eateries.
Just keeping designated areas.
Good or bad !
I smoke and know the pitfalls before a lecture please
Smelly
Dangerous
Burden when older ( maybe)
Health
Etc
But surely with correct extract ventilation like there was in airports with air walls it could be a viable solution.
Still banning no sale to under 18 and none in cars whilst under 18 inside.
I suppose smokers will I'm sure have a total 180° view than non smokers.

The ban here has without doubt reduced smoking and improved the health of many. Keep the ban. Personally helps me although I doubt I'd go back to smoking anyway.

When you see a loved one die up close and personal from a smoking related illness you become clear as day about whether the ban was right. It should never be allowed in public areas, but do what you like at home, unless you have kids of course and then smoke outside.

Ban it in cars as well like mobile phones. The useless manoeuvring whilst people smoke gets on my t1ts.

You've missed out the most important disadvantage of smoking - the cost.

I packed up 15 years ago but until then was a heavy smoker getting through two packs or more of Castella cigars every day.

At current prices that's £4,562 a year and that's out of taxed income so anyone paying tax at 20% would have to earn £5,700 per year before tax to smoke what I did.

I no longer smoke but I do have several overseas holidays a year that are partly funded by not smoking

I think there is grounds for a number of bars and restaurants to market themselves as smoking bars and restaurants (with a view of only having smokers as staff).

Its getting a bit absurd that actually you can only smoke in your own house if you own it (properties that allow smoking are few and far between). Its easier to rent if you have kids and animals, than want to smoke indoors.

Whilst I appreciate there are health issues attached to smoking, the health Nazi approach of effectively turning smokers in to pyriahs and outcasts is a bit harsh (no smoking on stations? Meanwhile those fumes from that Diesel train are positively brimming with passive inhalation goodness).

Also extending the ban to include vaping was usual bandwagon nonsense, given that second hand inhalation of water vapour isn't harmful.

Yeah, but then I've also seen loved ones die, up close and personal, from non-smoking related illnesses - Its not really any better. Everyone dies, and not many people die nice, quick relatively peaceful deaths.

I disagree slightly, most people would agree with that view perhaps 10-15 years ago or earlier certainly, however, we have moved on as a society and that people who do continue to want to smoke should not infringe on others in any way, in fact, I would make it illegal to smoke around other people in any way as I know some people who still smoke with children in the house and their kids turn up school stinking of cigarette smoke.

If people want to kill themselves with smoke, go right ahead, but if it affects other people it is downright selfish

I worked in Vienna for most of 2015 and loads of bars were smoker friendly and in the office there were vented smoking booths - from shoulder height going up to the ceiling.

The cost is interesting to look at in relation to football.

If for instance you smoke a pack of twenty cigarettes a day costing £8.00 each, a season ticket for Palace costing £500.00 is nine weeks worth of smoking. So if you smoke but can't/wont be able to afford a season ticket then think about stopping smoking and physically putting the money away somewhere to buy one.
