Today sees palace play brighton for the first time in the premier league. I think its healthy to have a rival, good luck to palace tonite. Anyways does anyone remember back in the day, the palace v brighton boxing day match in december 1983. There was one big clash outside. We palace left early,a large firm and we walked to the top of the hill where the sainburys end is, brighton had 3 or 4 coaches parked outside the sainburys end, as there were no trains being boxing day. When we got to the top of the hill, brighton were coming up the hill. There was a big clash, that went on for a while. I hate to say it but palace backed off in the end. The point iam making is that the palace v brighton match is a healthy rivalry and has been going on along time. Anyway this was a long time ago and times have changed. Does anyone remember the december 1983 match we lost 2-0

Remember it? I thought we vowed to fight for evermore because of it. Incidentally, does anyone remember when the famous Alan Mullery went to Rome to see the pope......?
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

Boxing day 1979 is the one I remember. It was the biggest ever attendance at the Goldstone ground and the biggest day of carnage I have ever seen at a footie match. Raining glass milk bottles and sharpened coins. I was a 15 year old punk wearing DM steelies and a Harrington which was our uniform back then. I remember a fence dividing the fans getting torn down by hand and it all kicked off big time. When we left the weed were getting thrown on the railway tracks. A 3 nil loss and a day of total chaos. I am sure the original poster will admit that Brighton are w*nkers and I, along with many Palace have never run from them, ever!
