Cure Leukaemia Birmingham 21 Nov 17 3.21pm | |
---|---|
Hello, My name is Bobby and I work with your former skipper Geoff Thomas at blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia. Geoff is a Patron of the charity and, as many of you are aware, has dedicated his life to raising funds to fight blood cancer after his own battle back in 2003. This year Geoff rode all three grand cycling tours (Giro D'Italia, Tour de France, La Vuelta) that's 10,400km, to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia. The '3 Tours Challenge' team were the first amateur team to take on this challenge - it was a remarkable feat of determination and endurance, so far they have raised £250,000. The event simply would not have happened without the phenomenal support of Steve Browett through his company Farr Vintners, Steve Parish and CPFC and the Palace for Life Foundation. As a celebration of Geoff's achievement, the Club agreed to let us use the CPFC crest to create a special shirt to raise more funds in support of Geoff. The shirt will feature the names of everyone who donates to appear in the design. It costs £20 to donate your name and you would receive your own shirt as well. See the attachment to this post to see how the shirt will look. I am writing on your message board (after Geoff suggested it would be the place to go) because we will have to close this opportunity at 6pm this Saturday after the Stoke match. Those who have donated already are rightly asking when they will receive the shirt so we need to have a deadline. There are plenty of spaces left on the shirt so I hope that some of you might be interested in being involved. The website to donate is: [Link] Every penny will go towards our £1m appeal in 2017 to expand the Centre for Clinical Haematology, the Centre at which Geoff was treated back in 2003 and to which he owes his life. I hope this is of interest to some of you and personally, I would just like to thank everyone involved with Crystal Palace for the phenomenal support your club has given this charity in 2017. So much negativity surrounds football and fans but rarely do the media focus on how generous fans can be and yourselves and Wolves this year have proved that. Thank you and I hope you have a great rest of your season, if you have any questions please email geoff@cureleukaemia.co.uk. Best wishes, Bobby Attachment: Linkedinpost.jpg (300.09Kb)

I donated a couple of months back when it appeared in the matchday programme, shamefully I don't do much for charity, but I think any palace fan like myself who was around at the time when GT was playing couldn't help but be touched when he fell ill and what he has done since is incredible!!

It's a shame that this thread is tucked away in a corner that not many go to. I've only just spotted it and would have contributed if I'd seen it in time
