You receive an out-of-the-blue call from a former hugely successful manager and less successful liar - somewhat unexpectedly newly available, having just been sacked by West Brom. He offers to take over managerial duties for six months if you completely waive all the monies he owes you, should he again save you from relegation. He requires only a moderate salary and funds to sign a striker and goalkeeper in January, who have already indicated to him an interest in following. He assures you that Roy won't mind, he's told him, God's honest, cross his heart, hope to die, trust him. What now?

Nah, you've got to have standards and keep a modicum of dignity. Would take relegation rather than that.

What’s Roy done wrong? Pulis or Sam couldn’t have done better.

Roy’s turning us around. We’ll be fine. We should have won our last three on performances alone. That will have to start transferring to results soon enough.

And we'll still pop round regularly to see him, bringing some shopping, getting his milk in and fetching him a blanket. But Pulis is a different matter. Remember when he came and we had only the faintest pulse? All the Stoke fans telling us we'd be fine? "Don't be soft - we're screwed: no points, no idea, no hope. It's over." / "Nope. He'll keep you up, regardless." / "Nah, it's not possible." / "He'll keep you up, 100%. I guarantee it." And how. So what price our principles(/future?)?

If I were chairman I would give my manager a budget for purchases and wages and let him get on with the job. I'm afraid we've lost too many good managers for whatever reasons and we're now playing 'catch up'. I just hope we dig ourselves out of this mess.

Trevelyan's drawn the one up top so that's the one in front of you. (You can always cheat and look - the answer's at the bottom of the table.)

I'm sure Pulis has a little chuckle at Parish and how he's repeated the same cr&p again, and been finally found out, trying be smarter than the other 19 professional outfits out there.
