Given that most business organisations have a clear management reporting structure, does anyone know if Roy is reporting to Dougie and Dougie - with overall responsibility for all football matters - to Parish? It seemed to be implied from a recent Roy interview and, if correct, makes Dougie's role very powerful. Interesting that he has kept such a low profile since returning.

Dougie would report to Roy not the other way round.

Dougie's role is as mysterious as his appointment. No-one seems to know what the f*ck he's doing.

I wouldn't expect a football club to be too much like a business. Very few people buy football clubs as a business investment (outside of money laundering where an asset that can make a loss on a massive turnover is exactly what your looking for). Football clubs are more like a charity, for professional footballers, owned by people who like football, and think they have too much money.

Freedman is probably a bit like AJ in terms of his second signing, more about how the owners feel about a player with legendary clubs status, than as a business decision. Parish et al are all lifelong Palace fans. I wouldn't be surprised that a number of Palace legends are on the books, because of some kind of hero worship. That said, its fairly arguable that Freedman might very well have been one of the shrewdest signers of players in our history. Its hard to look at the players he signed, and think, nah he wasn't worth what we paid for him. Most of them ended up being worth several hundred million in turnover (given they got the promotion, the play off win, and formed the back bone that kept us up for the first few seasons - at least).

You hear the titles 'Sporting Director' 'Director of football','Technical Director' etc etc but I suppose the roles of each can vary from club-to-club depending on the TORs and what one 'Director of Football' does at one club might be basically what a 'Sporting Director' at another. When clubs appoint a DOF etc etc, supporters generally don't know their precise role and areas they operate in and the functions they perform.

I think it's pretty clear that he's been brought in to help with the long term acquisition and departure of players. First and foremost this is his role. That's not to say he has the final say, I'd expect this to stay with who ever is the current manager and of course final sign off by the board. But due to the high turn over of managers and the fact that Parish can't handle it and shouldn't have to, DF has been brought in as a kind of constant figure that can assist the current manager and provide continuity should a manager move on. Clearly makes sense to have someone in this position whilst we are burning through managers so quickly. Roy no doubt won't be here for long due to his age. And it therefore gives the club and other clubs a point of contact for player recruitment other than SP. As to who reports to who, I'd imagine Roy steers DF on the type of players to chase and the ones he'd like moved on. And that DF reports back to Roy and the board before the board makes a decision.

SO....What we're saying is, that NOBODY outside OR inside the club knows a 'scooby' what he does or why?
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Why do we think that?
