I have been reading posts on this site for a long time now, living in Cornwall I don't get to any games anymore but it's great to read what you all post to give me a great insight into the team we all love so thank you all first and foremost but seeing Benteke back in training made me regain hope for this season to pull ourselves out of this mess. I appreciate he's not everyone's cup of tea but we are missing a proven goalscorer so badly with wilf and andros supplying him really gives us a chance.

He's not my cup of tea when he's marked out of the game so easily and wins so few headers. That said he didn't look too bad against City so let's hope he picks up where he left of in that game.

You’re joking right? You realise Benteke won most aerial duels in the whole of the top 5 leagues in Europe last season? Cant remember the exact number but if i remember rightly he had won over 100 more than the player in second in the Premier League too. Was a total north of 400.

He was also in the lead in the Premier League up until his injury this season.

You clearly don’t watch him enough to judge him as a player.

He loses a lot of them too though. That stat really surprised me, but is very impressive. I feel though that his rate of winning them would not be so impressive, and that this stat is partly due to our style of play and hitting it long to Benteke so often. Some of the headed goals he's scored are phenomenal, but I think Murray was better at winning aerial duels and retaining possession (not trying to turn this into a Murray thread)

I think those stats are misleading - he may win the initial header, but we seem to lose the second ball a lot after that. Fact is he's been pretty ineffectual in the traditional target man role we play him in recently.

I can't really understand what you mean here. He wins more than anyone else, but loses some too. He cannot win them all. What do you expect?

If we didn't hit it long to him, he wouldn't get the opportunity to win/lose aerial duals. He would neither win or lose, as the ball isn't aerial!

Systematically dragged down by the lawmakers

That's not his fault. If he wins the aerial ball, why is there nobody there to assist?

Agree with this, it’s up to the supporting players to win the second ball, can’t blame tekkers for winning headers! We never seem to have wilf or Andros running in behind, gambling on the fact that tekkers will win most of the balls we hit his way.
Add 17 goals to the balls he wins and he is a huge factor in us staying up last season, and will this when he comes back and starts scoring.

What are you going on about? The argument was that he ‘wins so few headers’. The stat completely proves that statement wrong. How can he be blamed if no one wins the second ball? Ludicrous.

You do understand, and if not I'll explain... it's our silly fans trying to ignor facts to suit the feeling they have that he's not actually a quality player.

Similar to Wilf making more chances than most yet still gets accused of not being consistent. Except the facts would suggest he consistently creates chances...

We need to get behind Benteke when he's back as we desperately need him to hit the ground running.
