Surprised that no one has posted on this yet, but probably shouldn't be as it has become so commonplace, even the BBC didn't run it as their main story.
Trump's comments are a disgrace. Certainly there are mental health issues involved - the USA appears to be populated largely by nut cases, including their leaders, who think it is ok to have the public owning assault weapons.

We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell]

Yep, agree with you fully there Hedgehog. Seems that, for US lawmakers, the right to own lethal weapons trumps a citizen's right to life.

The biggest danger to Americans remains other Americans.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

I lose sympathy to be honest. Every time it happens there's a couple of days of outrage and then it dies down and nothing changes. Until they realise that they're safer without guns than with them then it will just keep happening.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

I almost started a post saying something similar this morning but having commented on the last one that these events are already playing second fiddle to #kneegate I couldn't be bothered...sad sad sign of the times

Pretty much. If its a mental health issue, do something about the appalling state of mental health care in the US (at the very least).

I think they're are always mental health issues involved when someone decides that they're going to shoot as many people as possible (even in terrorism) that's just not the product of a rational or sane mind.

And of course its a gun issue. The bloke used an AR-15 assault rifle to shoot 46 people (with a gun that holds 30 rounds). Of course that's a problem - It holds 30 rounds, all of which are designed specifically to cause as much harm as possible to human beings.

Merica!

the media are reporting over 13,000 killed in the US in mass shootings..i think its for the last 12 months.

307 shootings in 309 days.

That is 4 times the total deaths of 30 years of Northern Ireland troubles, or more than 4 times the death toll of 9/11. utterley utterley bonkers.

3,000 killings in Syria in September. The US aren't that far behind averaging 2,000. Mental country with a leader who reflects that.

They did, before the oh so important celebrity witch hunt (it's legal but immoral being the angle) came to light shortly after.

The trouble with this one is that the gun lobby have already declared that a good guy with a gun has chased down the attacker, so it's not a gun issue, which Trump has pretty much repeated.

It was the attacker's in-laws church according to reports, but they weren't there at the time.

The shooter was ex military with some mental issues, he was denied a gun license but managed to get an assault rifle anyway.
I live in Miami where there seems to be drive by multiple victim shootings every week. But other than these ranting lunatics, 99% of mass shootings are in poor area's.
I know it sounds weird, and i am not trying to justify, and i dont own nor would i ever own a gun, but its is a mental problem, not a gun problem.

Society here has massive problems, mostly drug related, both legal and prescription.

Seriously, what sane county would have elected this bozo ?

If they want the right to bear arms, it should be limited to arms produced before 1800. It wont stop the deaths but will seriously reduce them.

Until they do something about the gun lobby, nothing will happen. Again and again and again.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
