It is amazing how affected by luck we have been lately. Remember Fraser Forster? Anyway - that first goal simply would not have flown in, in the first few games - where clearances off the line and amazing saves were coming thick and fast. Now on to Sakho, I love the guy but what the heck was he doing trying a back heel clearance in a scrum of players about 2 yards from the goal? He had a good game, and was fantastic in setting up Wilf's goal, but he is allergic to a hoof clearance. We had clearly been told to play it out from the back, but a good defender knows when to put his foot through it. There were several times when he tried to play his way out, and for the most part it worked out. On another day we couuld have shipped a goal after that back heel. He just needs to know when to hoof, maybe Damo can have a word?!
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

He did immediately. Sakho knows he was a naughty boy and won't do it again.

Players make mistakes, hoofing the ball is hardly a good general philosophy. You don't see the goals that didn't happen because the ball was never calmly played out from the back.....yet you can see it from calmer teams all the time. In football you have to accept that sometimes even the top players will make mistakes. Players will not always make the right decisions. The reality is though that they make far fewer mistakes over a season than other less talented players.

back heeling the ball in the last few minutes inside your own 6 yard box isn't a bad decision it's lunacy. Luckily we got away with it, but it shows the fine margins - if that had gone in all the great effort over the previous 89 minutes would have been undone. I admire the way Sakho doesn't like to hoof it but occasionally it's required. He did a back flick only a few minutes before that went wrong and it set up an attacking position for Chelsea - the one where Dann took a booking - so he'd had his warning already.

I will point out that Mama looked ashamed about his back-heel, apologising to Scott D straight away, as for his reluctance to "hoof", Mama has got massive feet, as have I, and I could not kick the ball more than 30 yards if I tried, this might be a factor!!

Sakho has always got a mistake in him but it's a price we're going to have to pay for everything else he brings us.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

I almost coughed up my heart when he did that backheel. It's worth noting, though, that winning the ball just outside their 18-yard box and then driving at the defense with it is also something he's not supposed to be doing. Edited by Ray in Houston (16 Oct 2017 9.03pm)
We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football. |

He did something similar in Sam's first win. Instead of getting it clear in the final minutes at the wh end he passed it back to ward at RB when he had 2 players on him and nowhere to put it. Ok it was from the middle of the goal to just off the post rather than across the whole goal but it could've gone badly wrong as well. After that his passing under pressure was immense and a lot of them were in the path of our player on the counter attack. Edited by Rudi Hedman (16 Oct 2017 8.46pm)

He did immediately. Sakho knows he was a naughty boy and won't do it again. Personally I think he's quite likely to do it again (or something similar), it's in his footballing DNA. He will cost us the occasional goal with a poor choice but he will save many, many more.
