For me yesterday was like the perfect storm, several things all happened together and I think they're important to note:

1. The fans were all right behind the team and it was evident in the warm-up. They'd have gone back in feeling pumped up. We should always be like that.

2. Jules was in goal. Lifted everyone. One thing Pardew never understood was the importance of iconic players to matchdays. You can't just pick them on that basis of course, but it should be part of the consideration.

3. The noise started from kick-off. Important.

4. We went after them, no matter our season so far and it was Chelsea, we were positive.

5. The players trusted each other with passes to feet. It works, it exudes confidence.

6. Roy mixed it up with the 2 wingers in a kind of free role, winger / striker thing.

7. The lads worked their socks off.

8. Crucially when they equalised we were straight back at them. Easy to go into our shell but we didn't.

It's only one game and we have to follow it up at Toon next week but Roy gets a lot of credit for getting the team performing like that. Yes Chelsea looked poor, but you still have to do it and we did. Zaha talking about us having great players, which we do.

With hard work and discipline that squad is easily a top 10 team. But they have to earn it.

What does everyone else think?

You'll be forever in my family's memories and it was an honor and privilege to play and lead in the red and blue
Yours sincerely
Mile Jedinak

Masterstroke from Roy 4-4-2 with Wilf and Andros up top. Their 3 CBs never came forward at all

This says it all, seven games in without a point or even a goal, up against the Champions expecting another tonking, yet not one empty seat in the house.

I think the OP is getting a bit carried away. Nothing to do with Speroni playing, he had very little to do. The credit should go to Hodgson and Lewington getting the players playing like an organised team, they have had 2 weeks with most of the squad to work with them.
Its still a long way to go before we are comfortably in mid table.
If we can keep Zaha injury free and other key members of the team, Roy will steer us to safety, he has all the experience needed.
Talk of top 10 is ridiculous, after one win in eight.

Absolutely wrong! Speroni in goal was a massively boost to the fans and in turn the players!! He has to start next game. He is palace through and through and team spirit is massive for a club like ours. We will never be world beaters but with spirit we can beat anyone on our day and yesterday proved it. And you say he had little to do? Did you not see his confidence in claiming crosses? What about that great save on the line? The defence trusted him aswell and that made them perform better. The OP is not getting carried away! We just beat Chelsea!!

Have to give it to Roy, there’s life left in the old boy. We played the counter attack perfectly and looked comfortable on the ball. It’s the best I’ve seen palace play in what seems like an absolute age.

Chelsea were there for the taking, PVA could have had a hat trick!

Yesterday’s atmosphere gave me goose bumps! It must be awesome to play in front of that crowd!

Hopefully we can keep in touching distance of the bottom 6 and sign a goalie and pacy striker at Christmas. The movement up front was unbelievable, Benteke needs to take note!

Not what he meant pal, he's saying we have the quality of a top 10 team, not that we will finish in the top 10.

Speroni in goal lifted the crowd. I'm sorry, but it's true. The atmosphere definitely helped keep the players going and battling. I'm gonna have to look up the running stats for Cabaye, Macca, Luka, Schlupp and Andros. As for Wilf, he was gone after 60 and although Roy leaving him on worried me, it was the right move cos Chelsea were terrified of him and that meant Luiz had no effect coming through from deep.
Have to say the two months under FdB have definitely improved our quick, one touch, short passing game. We have had some excellent passages of play recently within Roy's structure

Your getting carried away as well, Speroni played ok, but don't make out he was the match winner. We beat Chelsea the last time we played them, in that match Hennessey was outstanding, possibly his best game for us.
If you had a choice of Speroni or Zaha in the team, who has the greater influence on the team.
As I said before the result is down to Roy's work and planning with the team.

Prefer Speroni at the moment as Hennessey although having the superior reach is not as agile. On saying that I did notice the players actually passing the ball back to Speroni much more frequently than they ever do to Hennessey. Could be something in that?
