Ecstatic with the result! It appeared to me today we played without a striker? May be wrong but did we play with a false 9?

Sort of. Zaha and Townsend seemed to be taking it in turns...

It certainly paid off! Roy's tactics were spot on today. Well done to him! Eagles

First half was 4-4-2 with Wilf and Andros up top but playing quite wide. Second half looked more like 4-5-1. Wilf has the talent to play through the middle, wouldn't mind seeing him just behind Benteke when he's fit again. Happy days
"Brighton are talking about how they're coming for us. And it's like, we've been waiting in the Premier League for you for ages." Wilfried Zaha, 2017. |

When one of our wingers was on the wing... The other would go central and be the false 9. Was fantastic tactical mindedness from Roy.

There were times when we had a crossing opportunity but nobody in the box, which is a bit like what playing Benteke has been lately. And I think Wilf could hardly stand at the end. But a lot of the time it was like having an extra man, even if it wasn't a specialist centre-forward. Wilf and Andros were f***ing outstanding. Loftus-Cheek can play that game too. Wilf said in the interview that he and Townsend were up front, basically with the idea of one getting into the box whenever the other had the ball

Whatever Roy has done to our players it was like they were supercharged.

Not sure if they all did. A few have spoken out for him since he left. McArthur for one. Think opinion was divided. Fdb worked out our weaker players v quickly... Beside puncheon anyway... And made them know about it. Some would say bullying but a generation or two back that would be the norm. Players played their hearts out against Burnley too... That wasn't the way a team plays to sack a manager.

I'm now of the opinion that strikerless football is the new black.
Bangell - If Camus wrote The Myth of Sisyphus today, it would be about Jason Puncheon eternally trying and failing to pass with his right foot. |
