10 of our players in our squad of 25 have contracts expiring at the end of June next year which will give us an opportunity to clear out the deadwood and plan for next season in either the P/L or the championship. Here are my thoughts.... 1. Yohan Cabaye - I feel his legs have gone and it is time to cash in in January. Jairo can be his replacement. 2. Jimmy Mac - we should look to extend his contract by 1 or 2 years. He is a great squad player and can be used in both PL and Championship. 3. Joel Ward - Sell him on in Jan if possible and purchase a new Right Back to compete with TFM. 4. Wayne Hennessey - Sell in Jan if anyone is interested and buy a new Keeper with the funds from Cabaye sale. If no takers release in June. 5. Jules - Extend contract for 1 more year as cover. 6. Damo - Thanks for the memories but time to sell in Jan if anyone is interested or release in June. 7. Martin Kelly - Sell in Jan or release at end of contract in June. 8. Bakary Sako - Sell in Jan and use whatever funds ( however small ) to help with a striker purchase in Jan. 9. CYL - Sell in Jan if anyone is interested or release in June. 10. Ladapo - extend for 1 more year if he can find his feet as he may be useful in the Championship. In summary that's 7 to be moved on in Jan if possible ,with a new Right Back, Striker and Keeper coming on board in Jan. The four free places can be taken up by some of the youngsters that did quite well in pre-season. Irrespective of the division we are in next season we will have cleared out a lot of the dead wood from our squad. I am confident that we can stay in the PL this season as long as we make decent decisions in Jan and have a better run with injuries from now on - Up The Palace.

And who do we keep for the rest of the season?! You're proposing to rip the heart and soul out of the squad? We need more players, not to get rid of what would be good squad players, even first XI on their day.

You obviously think our squad is too big! Think some of us, including myself actually think the opposite.

We won't get rid of all of them because clubs won't take certain ones at current wages and form. We currently only have 1 place for a striker so we have to move out a few in January. It's academic re: survival imo as Parish has likely nailed on relegation. It's a fair shout for the summer and tbh there's going to be more leaving in the summer. All those first on the team sheet players all sold. Edited by Rudi Hedman (03 Oct 2017 9.28am)

Nobody is going to purchase our out of contract players in Jan, when they are released in June. Plus if we're still well in the mire come Jan, players like Sako, JM, JW WH and Jules will be needed for the championship. The cost of replacing them 20 plus mill. The only question is why did we sign Mutch on a 5 yr deal ...

Where did I suggest that jules and Jimmy Mac should be let go ? Joel Ward as I understand it does not want to sign a new contract currently and therefore it is better for us to sell him if possible. If we are relegated players such as Hennessey and Sako will not get us back up. If as you say Sako and Hennessey are useful in the Championship ,then I would suggest that some desperate clubs in the Championship may come knocking in Jan - for a reasonable price of course.

Not at all, the squad is just full of players that need to be moved on as they will not do a good enough job for us in either division at current levels. As I suggested it is time for Lumeka and Lokilo and the rest to fill the gaps - I am certain they will battle harder in their positions than some of those mentioned.

The original poster is living in cloud cuckoo land. No firm descisions will be taken on out of contract players until our position is clearer. If we are in championship contract offers will be less for obvious reasons and will likely be less than they are on now This means some may decide to sign pre-contract agreements. The January window will be used to increase depth of squad a new striker/goalkeeper. If we are looking a relegation Certs these will be players for championship and if we are still in with a chance of keeping our EPL status then I would expect to see solid EPL quality professionals arrive not names. If we are certs for relegation I think we may sell Sakho, Benteke Amdros and possibly Wilf in January. Purely as we may get better prices then. This money will be used to build a squad capable of playing in Championship or lower EPL

I have suggested clearing out the dead wood (Cabaye being the exception - really like him but his best days are behind him). 7 out 3 kept and a Striker, Keeper and Right Back brought in. Overall wages reduced by using some of the younger talented players Lumeka, Lokilo, Wan Bissaka as back up. The whole point of clearing out the dead wood is to give us a chance of staying up - if we continue to play Ward, Sako, Lee, Hennessey, Damo and Kelly then we will be down. I cannot see us being certs for relegation by January and you say Ian in Cloud Cuckoo Land ?

We're in a bad place because the good ones are too expensive to keep and the sh1t ones I couldn't trust to perform in the championship. The only player I think fits is Jimmy. Either too expensive to keep or too sh1t to keep and possibly deluded to think the offer isn't high enough. It will be about 10 players we'd need to move out to completely address it all. I hope they're planning for either league and not the usual leave it to the last hour or just not fill a position.

If we stay up, to replace all of those players will cost a kings ransom and I don't think Parish or the Yanks, if we go down add Townsend, Wilfred, CB and MS to the list. No RLC or TFM as will return to parent clubs and we'll be looking at another relegation battle.

I cannot see us being certs for relegation by January and you say Ian in Cloud Cuckoo Land ? You are suggesting decimating the depth of squad in January when at we will most probably be around relegation zone due to our bad start. The young players you suggest do not need to be in 25 anyway. If we were to place Hennessey, Ward and Kelly on market we would get buyers. We already need 1 keeper so we would need 2 and we need replacements for other 2. The replacements will be on EPL wages so little if any saving. Cabaye I agree with you is past his best but I am not sure we will get a buyer and he will want to see contract out. Most of the others you suggest other than Sako (I can see him going back to Wolves) we are unlikely to find buyers due to wages. Of the players you suggest keeping Jules may stay but is not adequate cover in EPL. McArthur will not extend unless he is a first team regular so I think he will move on. Freddie time will tell but he is not EPL (or championship) level at present. The priorities in January have to be getting cover where we need it. Players like Ward and Kelly are adequate bench players at worst so in my view will be kept till our future is clearer.
