Anyone know how to find out: Largest adrift defecit overhauled to stay up Worst goals scored and GD to stay up Most points a relegation contender has achieved in last 20 games Just curious to see what mountain we need to climb, anything is possible

Appreciate the doom but we're only four points adrift with 32 games to play. As they say in Australia 'she'll be right'!

Well, we got 38 points from the last 25 games in 2013/14. If we'd got no points from the first 13 matches we'd still have stayed up (and finished 15th or thereabouts, depending on goal difference).

I'll give you one stat to mull over, we're 5 points from 14th. The way we're going it may as well be five parsecs.

Looking at the midway point of each season (i.e. after 19 games), the record belongs to Sunderland in 2015/16. After 19 games they were 8 points adrift of safety, taking GD into account, and they finished the season in 17th. Leicester were 7 points from safety after 18 games in 2014/15 and were still 7 points adrift after 30 games, but at that point they had games in hand over the teams above them. However, being that late in the season surely makes it more of an achievement than Sunderland’s. Worst goals scored and GD to stay up? Well no single team has both the least goals scored and the worst GD because teams that score fewer goals tend to have tighter defences and teams that ship loads of goals tend to be more attacking. I suppose Villa in 2014/15 when they stayed up by 3 points had the worst combination of goals scored (31) and GD (-26), but both these totals were beaten by other teams. Sunderland in 2001/2 and Man City in 2006/7 both only scored 29 goals, but had GDs of -22 and -15 respectively. Both survived by 4 points. As for GD, Wigan outstripped everybody with a GD of -42 in 2009/10, but as they scored 37 goals managed to beat the drop by 6 points. If we stay up this season the way things are going, we might beat all of these.

Well - we have utd next, so again, a loss wouldn't be a shock. But, that'll be 0 points after 7 games where we need 7 points to be on track to staying up. Not good, esp for confidence. A win would be MASSIVE.
