Terrible against spurs, even worse tonight. After spending all that money, what odds for koeman being next manager sacked...

Yes they have spent a lot of money but they have also received a fair sum from the players they have sold and I believe their net spend is something in the region of £45 Mill which is not a fortune in PL terms. In terms of their Europa League match, they certainly didn't field their strongest side with Pickford,Gueye,Klaassen and Ramirez all on the bench. Edited by Willo (15 Sep 2017 12.21am)

So although they left z few players out, you would expect them to have enough depth to win a match like this.

Bought too many players like Spurs did when Bale left. Always a risk. The only one of those still st Spurs is Erikssen. The other 7 have gone. And Everton are light up front. Not as light as us, but seeing as they sold a striker for £75mil + addons of £20mil or whatever to not buy a striker but just Rooney, who now deeper, is bad.

Spoke to an Everton fan in the summer bragging about how great they were going to be. Will have to add in how shyte we've been when I ask him why his prediction has gone to sh1t. Spurs were decent last week but Everton were very sh1t too.

Having sold Lukaku they definitely needed another striker - don't know if they tried and were unsuccesful.I think Giroud might have been useful or perhaps Costa on 'Loan' ? So Liverpool are in need of central defenders and Everton in need of a striker.

So just looking in the panini album again and cheap options rather than investing the money in longer term quality which is closer to what Lukaku is. Buying 7 or 8 players after selling striker and trying to get cheap strikers in from down the road isn't an excuse.

Lukaku wasn't just about his goals, it was about the faith the fans and his team mates had in him scoring goals (a bit like AJ for Palace).

They bought Ramirez for £5.25 Mill and a 20 year old striker Vlacic for £10 Mill and I cannot see them scoring too many in the short term. They bought Rooney of course but I don't see him as a striker any more.Very hard to replace Lukaku with a player of similar quality.

Well, the short answer is that you can't replace Lukaku without spending as much as you made for the sale. Not unless you are extremely lucky unearthing an underrated gem. Rooney is a fan's hero at Everton and they'll be happy they signed him (all the time he's not in trouble with the law) but as you say, he won't replace Lukaku.

Hard to replace Lukaku if you're unprepared which it looks like they were, or relied on some out of favour strikers from the top 5 and not a lot else. They've messed up alright.

Lukaku was a top striker who commanded a fee of £75 Mill rising to £90 Mill. Not disrespecting Everton but I think strikers of that quality and ilk would be in demand by bigger clubs and might prefer to go elsewhere.Always difficult for such sides to replace like for like, hence they spread the money across a few players.
