I dont't think I have posted before but one thing I would like to say is can all of us please stop calling our new manager "woy". I would find this quite insulting and not funny. Most of us would not like it if it were done to us. Lets get behind him and look forward to our season finally kicking off. We have good players at our club and even though we might have to return to the way we have always played I can still see that Parish was trying to improve the club and for whatever...it did not work out as planned.

No need for you to get offended on others behalf.
Johnathan Ross seems ok with it.

People mock other people for their differences - always have and always will. If it's lighthearted then what's the problem?

I have Vitiligo and my wife calls me 'Patchy' I don't feel victimised.

Fully agree and lets get behind our new Manager.
Its Similar to those who referred to Big Sam as "Big Fat Sam" or "BFS"

I don't think it is but I know black people who call each other n***** and I know white people who joke with their black and Asian friends who in return will call them 'Honkey' etc.
It's all about intent in my book.
There was a lesbian at my wife's firm and the other girls called her 'Muff Diver' to her face because she was ok with it.

If you see a group of blokes in a pub they'll call each other "Fatty", "Ginge", "Tubster" , "Lanky" etc. etc.
They'll know what they can call each other - but they wouldn't go up to a stranger and call them "Fatty" or a N*****.

I hope that answers your question.

So why wouldn't you go up to a stranger and do the same? Is RH one of your mates or a stranger?

I wouldn't go up to Roy and call him "Woy".
If I met him and he called me Lanky or Patchy I might call him Woy.

Any more? I have to meet some friends for lunch soon. One is a black woman and I won't be calling her anything - it's not that kind of relationship and I'm not a complete dick.

If you wouldn't call RH 'Woy' to his face I'm not quite sure why it's OK to do it anonymously on here or anywhere else for that matter. Don't get me wrong, I'm not digging you out, I'm not all that bothered by it either way, but, I genuinely don't really get it.

The problem with the "he/she's OK with it" argument is that those comments may well be overheard by someone who finds it offensive; it's very much a David Brent-type attempt to justify the unacceptable. Plus, do we really know if someone else really is OK with being referred to by an offensive term or whether he/she is just putting up with it to fit in?

The use of the n-word amongst black people is a way of claiming the word back from the racist bigots, in the same way that homosexuals use 'queer'. It's still massively offensive when used by someone outside of the demographic.
