If a club signs a player they are mostly stuck with them however bad for the duration of their contract. But can offload them in a transfer window. In the Prem and indeed the Championship, the incidences of a player being paid off is rare. What if the same applied to managers? You had to keep them until the transfer window? Might spice things up a bit!

I don't know where they'd put the baby Jesus for a week until they could get a manger for Him.

This isn't true, clubs can pay out a contract or come to an agreement to end a contract with the co-signee and may well have terms in the contract that allow them to terminate early (so you can make an offer to a player to consent to an early end of contract). What you cannot do is simply break a contract, either you end it by mutual consent, or by a party violating the terms of the contract.
