Our squad is still very good

To all the doom merchants out there, i was looking at our squad in general, and whilst the transfer window was generally chaotic and not planned it would seem, we still have a better squad than teams like Burnley, Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Newcastle etc, so although i accept we are light in both the goalkeeping and striker positions and we have included both Pape Soaure and Connor Wickham who are not fit yet to start games, we are still compared to the squad Holloway came up with in 2013, way ahead now in terms of quality. As I've listed out as follows, there is a lot of very good players (NOTE: players can play centre back or full back i.e Fosu-Mensah and Kelly, so i have put those players in both positions as options, same as with Punch and Chung-Lee as CAM position, plus Punch can also play right wing, and Wilf could play up front as an option and so on)

Goalkeepers

Wayne Hennessey

Julian Speroni

Right full back/wing back

Joel Ward

Martin Kelly

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Left full back/wing back

Patrick Van Aanholt

Pape Soaure

Jeff Schlupp

Centre backs

James Tomkins

Scott Dann

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Martin Kelly

Mamadou Sakho

Jairo Reidewald

Damian Delaney

Right Wingers/Right attacking midfield

Wilfried Zaha

Andros Townsend

Jason Lokilo

Jason Puncheon

Left Wingers/Left attacking midfield

Bakary Sako

Jeff Schlupp

Wilfried Zaha

Lee Chung-Yong

Sullay Kai Kai

Centre Midfielders

Luka Milivojevic (defensive midfield)

James McArthur (both defensive/attacking centre)

Reuben Loftus-Cheek (attacking centre)

Yohan Cabaye (both defensive/attacking centre)

Jason Puncheon (attacking centre)

Jordan Mutch (attacking centre)

No 10 role/CAM

Jason Puncheon

Yohan Cabaye

Reuben Loftus-Cheek

Lee Chung-Yong

Jordan Mutch

Forwards

Christian Benteke

Connor Wickham

Wilfried Zaha

Freddie Ladapo

Looking at the squad overall, it is more than good enough to be in and around mid-table, and then in January we can improve the goalkeeper and striking positions. We may well off-load the likes of Mutch and Chung-Lee to bring in better quality players in their positions.

Yep, even with the deficiencies that everyone’s so angry about, it’s the best team/squad that I’ve ever known us to have. If it’s well coached, it won’t go down.

True - you could even say we have too many defenders now. The problem is that if Wilf and Benteke are injured, you can't see us scoring.

Got to disagree. Our first XI is good on paper but our second string is mid-Championship level at best and the ones left over League 1 can have.

Most of our squad are average. We are two players short of a very good starting eleven and have a few good young players who may step up.

When fully fit we're not. We have a good 11 and a few good back ups.

Less of the experimenting in this situation and irresponsible shyte with players out of position when others played there all pre season. It's a bit similar to Pardew. In a difficult spot, OK, make it worse.

If we set up 433, the squad not as bad as we make out. Yes 3 more additions would of been nice. We are , where we are.

Diabate in on a free transfer. We have 2 in every position until jan, when wickham back.

You know we have a less than strong squad when players can be out of form for a year or more and still get a starting place. Looking at you Jason and Scott and one or two others. Not their fault they get picked but can't imagine at any other prem club they would have gotten away with it for so long.

Do you class WH as good. Ward has been good but not for a while and not as a wing back. We are not far short just three players. Not sure who the good back ups are no game changers for sure.
