Political intolerance in US education

Being a secondary school teacher with a mixture of liberal and conservative....or rather I should say old conservative views. I'm well aware of the hostility within the UK educational institutions towards right wing views. However, it's incidents within the US system on video that have prompted me to draw up this post. In this link a maths teacher in Georgia kicks out two students from her class for wearing, 'make America great again' t-shirts, making comparisons to Nazis. The first link comes with commentary as I didn't find it on its own. The school leadership, to their credit, seem to have dealt with this situation fairly. This is one of quite a few incidents of educational intolerance for conservatism that has been springing up within educational institutions. Now that videoing things becomes easier I guess we are going to see this kind of thing more often. Edited by Stirlingsays (06 Sep 2017 12.19pm)

I like what you did there, prefixing it was "loony" to imply that you're not referring to all lefties will mean anyone taking offence at what you've said will be admitting to being a loony. This is legally binding.

Was there a time when state educational establishments weren't of a left leaning bent? I mean the whole idea of something that is generally free, in society's interest and educating the lower classes to think for themselves was hardly going to come from a right-wing every man for himself dog-eat-dog mentality, was it?

Interesting that this is how you characterise 'right-wing'. Sounds more like free market capitalism.....Everyone except communists believe in that. But very few right wingers believe it should be applied to every area of life.

Here we go. Kermit tries to justify this abuse of position by stealth. She should be disciplined for inappropriate behaviour. Her opinion on Trump is irrelevant.

Didn't say she was correct did I but if teachers aren't supposed to bring overt politics into the classroom to maintain professionalism surely the same should be said for the students for the sake of harmony?

Maybe the maths teacher objected to the structure of the sentence 'Make America Great Again' as it failed to posit what x would be in order to achieve this? I feel its unfair to compare Donald Trump to Nazis, who were actually fairly popular, media savy and well organised
