Steve Coppell's longevity in the modern (last thirty years) era sticks out like a sore thumb. Italian governments are more stable than our management.

Should we appoint DF he would be the fifth permanent Palace manager to make a return to the job since the 70's - Warnock, Coppell, Smith and Venables being the others I can think of.

If ever empirical evidence was needed to support the old adage 'never go back', this must surely be it.
